The two greenish half pints each hold 2 lbs of mixed vegetables (corn, peas, carrots and green beans) and the smallest jar has onions and bell peppers in it. I vacuum seal whichever isn’t in rotation and when I open it I make more.

Greens are in now, then broccoli and cauliflower to add to that mixture. Last will be cinnamon apples and mixed berries.

Crazy broody came out while I was watering this morning so I made sure she got to eat. Broody poop is the nastiest smell :sick The Rosemary and white sage are both putting on tons of new growth and smell wonderful. I got almost 100% germination with my corn, but there is grass growing in there too from the straw mulch I put on. The broccoli heads are growing and I recently learned that the leaves are also edible; so are the leaves on cauliflower. The lemon tree is looking pretty happy, hoped the big Arabian lilac will be again soon.

Last year,, I planted quite a bit of corn seeds. Not a single one came up. :barnie :hit
I planted it along the fence line, to create a somewhat privacy vision barrier. That along with sunflowers,, do look nice in the yard. I don't expect to harvest any for our use. Squirrels beat me to the sunflowers,, and racoons beat me to the corn. I understand they need to eat also. :pop

Any ideas on why my corn failed??? I planted kernels about poke finger deep. I also had more than one envelope of varied kind.:idunno

Any chance something like a squirrel could have dug up the seeds?

We have to cover anything started from seed. Jackdaws, pigeons, crows, doves, then all the small wild birds dig the seeds up if there isn't a mesh barrier to stop them. The mesh can come off once the plants are started and established. I had a losing running battle last year trying to grow garlic from bulbs. I would plant them with the bulb just below the surface and when I went to the field the next day, every one had been pulled out of the ground and just left there. This daily replanting went on for a few days. I gave up. In this case it was Jackdaws. I don't know what they got against garlic.:D

Oh man, I hate when that happens. You can go ahead and fertilize but it should be maybe 1/4 strength. Bury some chicken poop where you want to plant and let it compost in over winter and try again?

Birds could have dug them up. Not enough nitrogen or lack of nutrients in the soil. Soil pH could be off. Old seed. Some brands just don’t do well, I never have luck with anything Ferry Morse. Lots of things really.

I have to put on row cover material to keep the wild birds out of my beds until my plants are established as well.

Not that chance. I would see holes dug up. Also other birds,, not likely. I dropped flower seeds in adjacent area,, and those grew, and thrived.
I will check soil PH and read up some more about corn requirements.
Maybe I got a batch of non fertile corn seeds. :idunno
I will also opt for BETTER than entry level seeds. :thumbsup
Anyone ever try growing popcorn seeds?? I might try in a pot inside house as experiment.
