That's good to hear!

Hu, haha that's odd. It's usually the opposite for me. I guess everyone's chickens are different.

Yes I'm hoping that will happen. I have had that happen before with my salmon Favorelle. She stills squawks when I touch her, but she likes me to hold her and she likes my attention, she's absolutely halarious!

I now know I have 3 definite pullets and 6 deffinte cockerels.
hmm.png
I have figured out a new way to figure out their sex though! You know how they always say roosters eat a lot more than hens? Well roosters are always heavier. I have noticed my deffinte cockerls with red combs eating a lot and they are heavier than the deffinte pullets. My deffinte pullets don't have any comb or waddles, they aren't aggressive, and they don't perch up or look at me. I have used this method of sexing chicks at this age once before, and it worked.

I'm hoping it will work this time... And then I'm hoping it won't, because I'd like them all to be females, but I know that's impossible.

Would you give me your opinion on my two bantam Faverolles? I originally thought they were both cockerels, but now I'm kind of thinking they're pretty light.

Here they are in relation to my bantam Wheaten Ameraucana cockerel, Ling. He's about a week older.

Wow! I've never heard of that method, but I should try it! I'm pretty sure I have 1 Wheaten Ameraucana cockerel, 1 Black Rosecomb cockerel, 2 Mille Fleur cockerels, both of my Porcelains are cockerels, and 1 Phoenix cockerel.

@Alexandra33 Those both look like cocks to me. I only say that because they have black and beige coloring, usually females only have white and a dark pinkish color to them. I'm 99% sure mine is a cockerl. He has lots of beige, white and black now, plus he's constantly standing up in the "rooster stance", and looking at me with one eye. :/ You never no though they could turn out to be females. They sure are cute though. ;)

Oh no that's awful! I know I have tons too, but I have less chicks so it's really a bumper. :/ How many are you guys planning on keeping, and which ones?

Okay, that's kind of what I was originally thinking.

Thank you! Unfortunately, we won't be keeping them if they're males, because I really don't want a rooster in that breed.

We're planning on keeping up to 5 (we would keep some of the them in with the big girls), so that doesn't leave me many slots. I'm definitely keeping Ling, Piranha (Mille Fleur), a Rosecomb, a Phoenix, and a Blue Breasted OEGB when we get them. What are you going to keep if any?

I wish I could tell you I thought they were females. :( Okay, I love all those breeds! Nice choices, those are very beautiful roosters! Well, I'm not really sure yet. We can only keep 3-4. My salmon Favorelle is a definite cockerl, I'm going to be keeping him, along with my white silkie cockerl. Those are the only ones I'm positive on keeping for now. I guess I'll have to wait and see what other favorite breeds of mine become cocks. :/

Good news! Donrae and oldhenlikesdogs both think they're girls!

Cool, I can't wait to see what you end up with. How's little Poppy doing?

That's awesome! Hopefully they are! :D

Poppys good. She/he has been acting a lot like a cockerl though. :/ I really want it to be a pullet, she/he's so stinking cute! :p I love SSH's. :)

Yeah, the more research I do, the more I'm positive I've got pullets.

Maybe you could start a thread about yours and see what donrae, oldhenlikesdogs, and keesmom say? The latter (who is an expert at identifying Faverolles) also stated that mine are girls.

I've had plenty of girls who stood upright and were assertive as chicks, so hopefully that's the case with some of your babies. If Poppy's comb starts to redden and puff up at 3-6 weeks of age, it's most likely a cockerel. Any sign of pinkness yet?

That's awesome news! I think I will. Hopefully they will say it's a pullet, but the Salmon Favorelle stared getting in black and white polka dotted feathers on their chest yesterday. :/
Not yet, but it does seem to be growing in size, plus he/she is acting aggressive. :( I'll post some pics. below of the bantams babies. They grow up so fast! :hit
