Thank you so much... This is my first real gross goopy illness... This is my first try with a flock of chickens. I've had a couple little chicks die suddenly for no real apparent reason over the first/last 3 months... but this is going to be harder if these die since I've been spending extra time with them. THANK GOODNESS my "favorites" (the lap chickens and prettiest ones) haven't gotten sick... KNOCK ON WOOD!!

That's so great that you got that in the eyes. I think you should see an improvement soon!

Keep us informed...I'm curious as to how this turns out. Never hurts to know this stuff...just in case it happens to you!

Yeah... *sigh*... I guess it's a learning experience right?

Does anyone know how often I need to do those injections and for how long I should give them? I gave the first injection at around 1:00 today I think... So I have until then to figure this out...

THANKS!!!

Well, I just went out to treat the sickies and I'm glad to report that they already look a LITTLE BIT better! I didn't give them another shot because I wasn't sure if they were supposed to get it every day... I didn't want to OD them... But I rinsed their eyes with the saline, picked some mucous scabs (EWWW!) and put the eye ointment on.

It looks like the Lakenvelder MIGHT have lost his eye... I still see a blink reflex in there, but I think some of his funky scabs had some blood in them... and the tiny hole where his eye is looks a little bloody... Poor guy! His other eye is clear and nice though.

If anyone knows how often to dose them with the Tylan (intermuscularly) please let me know!!

THANKS! I'll keep you all posted!!

some people suggest once a day injection..for 3-5 days
but Tylan is active in the system for 8-12 hours..
so others suggest twice a day..for 5 days.

Merck Manual says every 12 hours.
