Funky egg...

Today, I went out to the coop and found one egg on the floor.
When I brought it inside, I realized that it was rough on one side and smooth, like usual on the other.
Then I cracked it open, and it was fine. The yolk was orange and firm, the shell was hard and the membrane was thick.
My hens are about six month old. What is this egg about? Should I be worried?

naw, sometimes new layers do wierd things! They will get better with time!

Yeah, they do some strange things sometimes. I thought mine were past that stage; they are all over 8 months, closer to 9, and this week one of them laid from the roost again, like when they first started. I could tell they had pecked at it, too, but luckily had not broken it. Silly chickens!

Interesting texture for eggshell. This weekend I got an egg with a small, yellow spongy mass inside, and it tasted like chicken....hmmm, I have no roosters.
