Funniest place you found a nest

We gave our old covered litterbox to our hens to use as a nest box. It is the deluxe nest box that only the top hens get to use. Sometimes a couple of them are in there at a time.

Wildsky, that's too funny about your horse biting the egg.

Mine set up a nest under a pine tree. Before Millie would share her nestbox with these new ladies. I thought they weren't laying til I found 12 eggs there.

Keep these coming! These are great!

In a corner outside of the run (she apparently flies well) right behind the dog kennel. This hen has done this for three years and hatches a clutch every year. Her idea of predator protection seems to work. So far no predator (and we have many) has dared to come that close to 2 very observant Border Collies.

We found a stash in the back of our truck. We had several bales in the back of the truck from a project, and I would see our porcelain D'uccle back there from time to time. I noticed the egg production seemed to have gone down, but I had checked that truck bed a couple of times and hadn't found anything. Finally, my husband cleared out the bales today and found a half a dozen. We are still trying to decided if we can eat them or not. She only free ranges during the day and we didn't let her out on a few rainy days, so I don't know if she was sitting on them or not.

I've read a lot of posts about hidden nests......what's the funniest place you had? mine sounds kind of boring next to some others i've read about but to me it was the first and very funny at the time! My EE hid a nest of 9 almost INSIDE a haybale and they were not even all hers!!

:weeegreen, brown white and a bantum all together!! what's your funny spot??
A hollow tree.

In an empty 55 gallon steel drum.

On the inner fender of a Chevy truck

Between the roots of a tree

And finally in my fishing boat.

In a hay baler. Way up inside. Unfortunately we didn't know she was in there.....

When I was in my teens I had a little bantam hen that flew in threw the window into my bedroom. I wasn't aware that she was building a nest UNDER MY BED until she went broody…

Other places years later was the usual garden spots, the barrel we used to prop our satellite dish up with (our then house had mud brick walls that wouldn't hold a nail), an old washing machine, and when I left the door open, our kitchen cupboard, my clothes dresser, my sewing basket, the washing basket… One little hen, Bella, used to come in every morning and lay an egg on our bed, often with DH still in it!

Oh my, under you bed!

Last summer I had one make a nest on a bucket of junk in the garage, I wasn't home that much and only found it when I heard a chick in the garage. Poor thing had ended up at the bottom of the bucket of junk and the hen couldn't get her. I got it out, hen was very mean, even though I was rescuing her chick. lol

Quote: It was quite funny actually! Whenever I had friends round they'd do that thing teens do and crash land on my bed and every time that happened, the startled hen would let out a broody roar… You can imagine the reactions that got! I left her there for a few days, until I got tired of being roared at all the time and all my friends were wise to the monster under my bed, and moved her outside.
