This is not my first egg. It is, however, the first egg for one of my girls (not sure if it was my cochin or wyandotte). The picture doesn't do it justice, but the egg is long and skinny. All my other first eggs we're like mini regular eggs - all shaped normally, just smaller. This one is so funny looking in person. I'm going to put a picture, but it's just not going to be the same as in person.

I'm proud that whoever laid it actually did it in a nesting box. I've been checking the yard for the past few days, knowing that 3 of my girls should be laying anytime now - and that's the first one from them. Yea!

Yep, heirloom breeds have the eggs with shapes somewhat different than the commercial eggs one is use to seeing, however the flavor and nutritional value is far superior than the perfect shaped store bought eggs that everyone thinks is correct!
Keep the good egg in favor, for the best flavor.....

The shape doesnt seem odd to me but the color... it looks almost black, like a really dark grey, am I seeing it correctly?

Actually it's a really nice creamy brown. Like coffee with cream. It's perfect, just the only one I've ever gotten shaped like that. It's long and narrow. Like I said, the picture doesn't reflect what it looks like in person. Everyone I've shown it to (in person) thinks it's the funniest egg they've ever seen. My neighbor said, "Well that one really got squeezed out." LOL
