~>Fury of the Wind<~ (A Bird RP)

Cement stared at the gangly gull, frozen crouched on the ground, his feathers sticking out at odd angles due to his very recent ambush. She cocked her head, feeling the same disbelief of her mate. I did underestimate the other gull. She reminded herself, remembering the encounter with Ritz. She looked to Russet as Riski took off. “I think he’s telling the truth.” She said quietly.

Fish Sticks blinked, breaking out of his still, cowering state. “Oh- right!” He squawked in an overly loud voice. Oyster crept forward, her eyes and her beak trained on his taip. Fish Sticks hopped away and flew after Riski, flapping rapidly in his haste.

Rocket spotted a scattering of birds on a nearby field. All of Cement’s gang. “Hey, should we go over there?”
Riski nodded. He lifted off the ground, followed by Russet.
Riski flew to the peak that commanded a view of the island, and could be seen by any of the gulls on it.

Nanako: while racing I needed to forage for food. But that's it.
Rocket grinned. “I’ll teach you how to forage!” She exclaimed, then dipped down to the field. With her feet firmly planted in the grass, she stilled, remembering that she hadn’t foraged since she was two months old. Which was, well, two months ago, but it seemed longer than that. And that had been the first and last time she’d foraged in a field.
Riski nodded. He lifted off the ground, followed by Russet.
Riski flew to the peak that commanded a view of the island, and could be seen by any of the gulls on it.
Vaatras detached himself from the bush and looked around wildly. “Where’d they go?!” He squawked.
Oyster, staring after Riski and Fish Sticks, didn’t answer.
Vaatras followed Oyster’s gaze. Spotting them, he hopped onto a rock and whooped. “Ha! Cowards! They’re flappin’ away, we’ve beat ‘em!”
When Riski and Fish Sticks proceeded to land on the island again, Vaatras’ grin disappeared from his beak.
Oyster took off towards them, flanked by the four gulls that had just arrived. Vaatras followed, grumbling.

Cement flapped after the gulls, staying cautious. Was this a mistake? We’re going to get stuck in the middle of a gull fight if we’re not careful. She thought grimly.

Just have to regain control of the situation, Riski thought. Just have to regain control. Things were looking grim.
He looked out at the gulls that were gathered at the foot of the hill. (Not many, but more than Vaatras' numbers.)
"Gulls united!" he yelled. "It is your leader of defences speaking!" The gulls murmured their approval of this information. All had been disoriented by Riski's ambiguous position in the gull government, and having a shared piece of information was a unifying factor for them. "Some of your numbers have decided to become insurrectionaries, and they have tried to upend your leader, just as he was trying to negotiate with our allies in Cement's gang!"
I'm like 40% sure insurrectionaries isn't a word, thought Russet.
Insurrectionaries isn't a word, thought Riski, but throw in a few long, meaningless words into a speech before the crowd can really think them over properly and they'll be drinking it in like pigeon milk. (everyone except pigeons used this expression because no one except pigeons actually knew what pigeon milk was)
"We should teach these hooligans a lesson! No one should rise against the rightfully chosen leader of the gulls!"

Gulls murmured among themselves. Though, gull murmuring was more like toned down squawking than anything.
“Hey, you aren’t our leaders!” One gull shouted.
Not this again! Sebastain thought, having recently arrived at the scene. Though many gulls had accepted the leadership of Fish Sticks, including himself, there were still skeptics.
“Yeah!” Another gull added, “I should be leader!” She said confidently.
Arguing broke out. The gulls were clambering to say which one of them should be the leader, while others squawked the advantages of following Fish Sticks. It was truly chaos.

Cement watched the birds from her rock perch with something rapidly becoming dread. She had thought the gulls were organized. But it seemed that there were a large portion of them who either didn’t accept Fish Sticks’ leadership or wanted it for themselves.

Russet scooted up to Cement. “I think you should voice your support for Fish Sticks as a leader,” he suggested, keeping his voice at a low whisper. “He seems pretty harmless and impressionable.”

“What do you think you have in leadership potential that Fish Sticks doesn’t have? Didn’t we come to a consensus yesterday? Remember his speech? The glory the gulls will have in the city? Fish Sticks did that. Show your loyalty, gulls,” Riski said, cringing at his misuse of words in the first sentence. Literally anyone would make a better leader than Fish Sticks.

“Yeah, kinda- my actual parents died when I was only a baby-“ Yuno mutters, hopping around anxiously.
“Ah.” Barnacles muttered. “Sorry about that, kid.” He said. He pointed with the tip of one wing to the edge of a pine forest, visible from where they were on the pier. “O’er there’s the Raven Woods. Most crows live at the border between the City and the Woods. Though there’re some that live in either of those territories.” He gazed at the Woods, worry in his eye. “I wouldn’ go into the Woods, if I were you. Heard a fledglin’ was chicknapped mighty recently.” He continued. “Not safe anymore.” He muttered.
