"Ow!" Spruce yelped, scooting back so the older pigeon couldn't land another blow. "It's not a bad gang!" He protested, adding, "Dusty's in a gang too, and you barely gave him a hard time about it!"

Cricket sighed and tried to listen to Pine over the shrieking chick. "Well, I wouldn't recommend it. You're still kinda..." The older crow glanced at Pine; her chick fluff and gigantic beak making her look like an angry golf ball. "...young."
"Dusty can fly half decently!" He snapped, but then replied meekly: "...Couldn't you have at least joined Cement's?"

"I am NOT!" She said indignantly. "I've wrestled with crows at least twice my size and WON! I could beat you right now!" She puffed up her chest, flapped her wings, and scowling, walked right up to her.

(that is the best character descriptions I've ever heard in my life:lau)

"Fine," Claw said, "then it's decided?" She looked at Moonlight, then to Barky.

"Well, uh, really it's nothing, but...." the gull stammered. He backed away then came back, pacing.

"As you know, I have been a non-member, like you, for a while. But recently, I've seen how unsafe it is." He tipped up his beak a little to look Ronald in the eyes. "The other birds are gathering, getting restless. The only safe option is to join a group of pigeons so we can fight back." Spruce finished, a sort of pride in his voice.
"Decided." He said reluctantly. (Sorry forgot about this)

"I can fly," Spruce muttered, offended. "Cement's gang is no good. All they do is flap around and party! If a gull patrol attacked, they would be beaten in minutes." He said, trying to defend himself. He couldn't believe that Ronald had sided with Dusty.

"You wanna fight me, fledgling?" Cricket giggled, "Well, you can if you catch me!" She leapt off the branch, spreading out her wings and circling the nest.

Who put these ideas into his head?
Ronald sighed, and was silent for a while. "I can't make your choices for you, boy-o. And if your heart's set on doing this then it's set. But drop all of this pride and glory nonsense. You'd be killing birds, you understand that? And they'd be trying to kill you." He looked Spruce strait in the eyes, "Death is death, boy-o. You can cover it up with rules and strategies or whatever you want but in the end it's still death. It's still murder. Those birds you'd be killin' have families, you have a family."

"HEY!" Pine shouted, leaping off the nest and flapping her wings so vigorously she could have been a hummingbird. Despite her efforts she kept bobbing up and down in the air.

"Maybe," Spruce growled, "but it would be to protect the pigeons I love." His voice was quiet, and he stared at Ronald with a pained gaze. "I hope you understand, grandpa. I just want you and grandma and everyone else in the family to be safe."

Cricket laughed and shot into the sky, then dived into the undergrowth, weaving around the tree trunks and shrubs that appeared in her path. It felt so good to fly like this; no worries about anything, just the wind in her feathers.

Frog, who had reluctantly flown away in order to find some food, spotted the raven on the ground. He swooped at her, much like a gull swooping for a fry in someone's hand. "Get away from here, you egg-stealing pest!" He spat.
She puffed up her feathers indignantly. Despite what Pine had been saying about her earlier, she was a rather skilled and clever fighter. "Why should I?"

"I'm aware." He replied, tilting his head and narrowing his eyes. "Alright. You're the boss."
Wordlessly, Moonlight fluttered into the cloudy white sky, wondering if a Scandaroon and a crow could fly to the heights that she could with that skycutter blood pumping in her brave, pigeon heart.
"Fine," Claw said, "then it's decided?" She looked at Moonlight, then to Barky.

"Are you going to keep stammering, or tell me?" Riski was swimming a figure-eight shaped groove right into the bay. "I can help you."
