I hope it's on the outside!

Yep. It was. It apparently was crawling up the hardware cloth, and I think was between the tarp and the hardware cloth.

I took a shot of the roost with the lowlight setting of my phone, no flash, and didn't see the snake until I was editing the photo. Everything was okay when I went back outside to check on the flock.

I've seen them crawl up the outside of my run too. Kind of freaky! I don't like it! At least the hardware cloth seems to keep them out.

And as I believe it was a racer (loooong snake) it would only be a danger to chicks or eggs.

I've lost a lot of eggs and an handful of chicks to snakes.

I actually didn't expect daily eggs, I just hope I didn't miss an opening in the coop, and lose an egg that way.

I was outside working in the yard, heard a ruckus in the chicken yard. Thought it might be a snake, nope. And no egg.

Thirty minutes later I checked again and found egg #3.



Do any of you keep an egg journal?

Decided to do some maintenance around the coop this morning.

The construction leftovers are in the process of being relocated to a drier location. I just couldn't do any more in the heat.

The chickens aren't afraid of the lawnmower anymore. As I made a pass around the coop they ran over to watch, all excited.



Perhaps they remembered the first bag of clippings gets dumped in their run?
