It's here...

I think one of the Dominiques is laying...

The one on the left is Martha's, the one on the right may be Martha's, the one in the middle I found today, in the left-hand nest. No one has laid an egg in that box before!

And it's smaller.

And it's brown with sprinkles!

If you've been following this thread you may recall that I had a Rat snake in my coop a couple weeks ago. I don't think it got in through a gap between the door and the frame, but decided to make sure that possible avenue of access was closed.

I had a small roll of 1/2" hardware cloth, 36" tall. Using my wire cutters I snipped a strip approximately 3" wide, so 3" x 36".

I placed the hardware cloth strip on the outside of the door (it opens outward) and adjusted it so it would cover the gap where the door and frame meet. I left enough overlap at the top to fold over, then secured it with a 1" screw and fender washer:

I kept opening and closing the door and attaching the hasps to make sure it would still latch properly.

Middle hasp:

I had to do a little trimming to be able to close the hasps:

Looks pretty good!

But...then I noticed that there was a gap on the hinge side of the door...

:barnie
I quickly realized that I couldn't attach the hardware cloth the same way as on the hasp side, as it would bend every time I opened the door.

How about on the inside?

I had some small bits of hardware cloth lying around:

And I attached them to the INSIDE of the door:

See the cutout areas for the hasps?

Not bad.

Oh. Yes. I'm tempted to get a little cart for all the stuff I haul back and forth.
And today I gave in to temptation, bought a Gorilla cart. It was on sale at Lowe's, and I had some birthday money to partially pay for it.

Wow. It's YUGE!!!!

I like your wagon. That will be very useful!

Happy Birtday!
When was your birthday?
Mine was yesterday.

Last year I got this to mainly to use in my garden. I also use it to unload and move feed, getting up leaves and straw, etc. I have the pull cart hooked up to my old golf cart. It's old but saves my back. You will love your cart!
