Annnnnnd it stopped. Just two today.

I did a little experiment with my flock this afternoon. I gave them a mix of interesting food. In order of preference:

1. Mozzarella cheese shreds (fine)
2. Green grapes
3. Bartlett pear bits
4. Canned green peas

The cheese and the grapes disappeared in the initial feeding frenzy, and then the pear tidbits followed. The peas were still on the tray until Naomi started eating them, then some others decided to investigate. All food was gone within a minute.

I think pretty much all of mine have come back into lay, I'm getting a lot of eggs right now which is good. Everyone seems to be happy and doing well too which is a bonus.

Today they gobbled grapes AND peas. And then more weeds from the garden beds.

When I bring chopped grapes for the flock's supper I dump the tidbits on a large saucer. While they're all gobbling up the goodies I place on a chair the cup I used to carry the tidbits.

Rahab figured out quickly that if she jumped up on the chair she had exclusive access to a few bits of food still in the cup.

But the other girls are figuring it out now...

"Yum, eggshells!"

Tamar, the quiet one.

Samuel is filling out. He'll be a year old on February 27th.

I've been supplementing my flock's feed with greens, the early Spring weeds growing in my fallow raised beds.

They gobble them up!

Today for the first time ever Samuel pecked at me. I was removing eggs from the nesting boxes when I felt my skirt being pulled. I turned around and Samuel was standing there, glowering. I had a bottle of water at hand, so I splashed some on him, and he took off.
Technically he didn't peck me, just my skirt.

I think Samuel might have been triggered by my red skirt; I'd not changed out of my work clothes before checking on the flock, just changed into my coop clogs. Also, I usually watch my back when I am getting eggs out of the boxes. I will not give him another opportunity to approach me from behind.
