This is like Christmas !

Hard for me to see.
Sometimes the first pip is a tiny crack then they open it up more. Most seem to work at a while then rest a bit.

It looks like a hole, left side of egg.

And it IS a pip!

First chick has settled down next to the one that is definitely pipping!

"Hurry up! I want a playmate!"

Oh my, another one is zipping!!!!

Two hatched!

One more has pipped and is zipping, in front. Its siblings keep rolling it around.

I checked on Tamar's eggs. Tamar was NOT on her nest, she was perched on the back of my chair, fluffed up and announcing her state. I checked her eggs and found one that had pipped!


I made an immediate executive decision, and slid the pipped egg under Rahab, who has been faithfully brooding two faux eggs for almost three weeks.

My plan is to take the incubator chicks out to Rahab after dark...and place them under her.

You say Tamar was off the nest - were the eggs cold? You might consider putting all of them under the other hen, they may still hatch if properly sat upon

The eggs were warm, and she's now back on the nest. Tamar has been faithful, but careless as a broody, six may have been too many though she's big enough to cover them. She still has five eggs. Rahab has been incredibly devoted. I'm hoping the pipped egg hatches under her.
