Zacchaeus took a couple pieces of dry cat food from my fingers this morning.
:yesss:

It's HOT HOT HOT 🥵 🥵 🥵

I cleaned the 5 gallon bucket waterer and refilled it with fresh, cool water. I wanted to do more, so I dug a hole in the run and poured in about a half gallon of water. There was definite interest by the hens.

When I came back about 10 minutes later...

Rahab and her four were dust bathing and digging themselves deeper into the damp earth!

But the Dominiques were making disappointed sounds, so I poured water in another area of the run.

My chicken "sitter" will be doing a dress rehearsal this evening, to check water, food, and egg levels as I observe.
:fl

Zack hasn't crowed yet, he'll be 12 weeks old on Thursday.

Joel's first attempts to crow were at about 10 weeks, but he didn't have seven bossy hens keeping him in his place.

Zack does talk:
What admirable fluency in chicken speak and great responses you got from little man Zack! He certainly seemed willing to talk to you about whatever it was 😄

And we're back from a wonderful time with the granddaughters. If anyone is looking for a relaxing time I highly recommend Pine Mountain resort in eastern Kentucky. Everything was clean, the staff were friendly and helpful, and there was enough to do to keep the youngsters happy. And the cost was very reasonable!

Our cottage, 2 bedrooms, 2 full bathrooms. Who needs an Airbnb?

We hiked an easy trail that was originally a railroad line.

The girls toured the nature center, were able to touch live snakes, turtles, and a tarantula. After doing activity books they were sworn in as Junior Rangers.

The cottage was equipped with a full kitchen, cable TV (which we didn't use), Wifi for the adults, and AC. We could have stayed longer but vacations have to end eventually.

I swear, the chicks grew while we were away. I'll try to get pictures later. And Zacchaeus was feeling his oats, attacked my shoes when I walked around the run last night. I'm glad he's not hiding anymore, but he'd better mind his P's and Q's or he can be removed. The auction is a possibility...

I'm glad you had a wonderful trip!
Looks like a nice place to visit and a lot to do.

You're Granddaughters are just precious❤️
Thank you!

When my daughter suggested we "meet halfway" Kentucky was the best location. And I discovered that Kentucky has many state parks that offer a lot at reasonable prices. Some had fishing and boating, another had a "mining" operation for children, panning for gem stones.

Take a look:
