Most of the time I cannot tell the Dominiques apart without looking at their anklets.

It is a benefit that each bird has a unique speckled pattern. That has to be easier to distinguish between than barring!

Aww, Martha and Rahab must be so happy to have you around! I love when my hens make me feel like a desired member of the flock. If my Août is out foraging and sees me coming down to visit them, she’ll run clear across the yard to welcome me at the bridge. It’s so sweet

Well today was integration day. I thought about trying to catch all those birds, And the resulting chaos. Then I just got a pair of wire cutters and made a hole in the fence between the two pens.
No drama whatsoever, everybody just went from one pen to the other and back again. The roosters pretended the little cockerels were not there. One of my big Erminette hens bonked a few of them on the head, but other than that they all pretty much seemed fine.

Uneventful Sunday. I'd purchased two bales of straw on Friday, so we finally unloaded them from the SUV. On the way home from church today I picked up more feed, which was placed in a trash can in the shed. The straw is temporarily behind the shed, under an old shower curtain.

Zack got up on the roost and appeared to be posing, so I took some glamour shots!

As I said, uneventful. It's nice.

That's a lovely hen on the right.

Both the girls have good markings. The other one, little mama, has a better comb and is that darker chestnut color, as is my older rooster.

If you look all the way over to the left you will see one of the roosters crowing away.
