fuzzi's Chicken Journal

Just a skin of ice on the water this morning, and they'd already pecked through when I checked.

Going to be colder tonight.
🥶🥶🥶
The wind is going right through my gloves, my hands are ice cold. I guess it's time to use my glove liners.

Oh, and my duvet came, my comforter cover! I'm looking forward to using it tonight.

It was 38° this morning, but tonight it's supposed to get down into the mid 20s, plus it's windy.

For us, and especially for early December, IT'S COLD.

I gave the flock some cat food as it was getting dark when I got home from work, and I didn't have time to prepare anything.

Later on, after dark I checked on the chickens. All the flock except the two lowest Dominiques were on the main roost, fluffed up and huddled against each other. I found room and inserted Tamar and Abigail on the roost. I heard some quiet muttering but no real complaints this time!
🥶🥶🥶

I broke ice on the water bowl before leaving for work this morning. It was too thin to lift out in one piece so I just scooped out the bits.

I pulled my down jacket out of the closet. 🪶🪶🪶 I have noticed in the last few years that I'm just not used to the cold as I was. However, after a week of a cold snap I should be acclimated to it.
My hens are leery of my gloves, too. :pop
