That is COLD for us in eastern NC! Pipes freeze at these temperatures since most are just underneath people's houses, in the crawlspace. We had our crawlspace partly sealed, with a moisture barrier and dehumidifier. So far the temperature under the house is not freezing.


All waterers were frozen this morning. I broke the ice in the rubber tub, it was about 1/4" thick. I poured hot water in the tub and over the waterer cups but those are pretty solidly frozen. Not a problem, the hens were drinking from the tub when I left the run.

Brrr! Very cold last night. Grass was crunchy this morning. When the chickens came out of the coop they headed for the sunny side of the run after eating. Smart girls!

They keep hinting of a possible wintry mix tomorrow. Hopefully we will only get rain.

We’re not supposed to see above freezing for at least 10 days. And 5-8” of snow is predicted for tonight. ️

I had to dump the tub and rinse and refill it. Guess why?


All my water bottles were frozen, but the rain barrel was still flowing, so I used a pitcher to fill up the watering tub. My hoses are disconnected and the faucets covered so I am glad to have another outside source of water..

Gathered one egg, will check again when I go out to walk the dog after dark.

Chance of snow showers later in the week. I have no issues with those. It's accumulation I do NOT like!

In my 36 years of living in the Carolinas I've noticed that we don't get snow from west to east storms, it's those southwest to northeast storms that drop white stuff.

I have been supplementing my flock's diet with winter weeds.

Looks nice and toasty! I don't worry about things freezing until under 0. But you really need to plan ahead up here.

Getting a light mix of rain/freezing rain here, but that should move out in the morning and it'll warm up. Nights will still be cold, not U.P. CoLD like for @1muttsfan but still cold for me. I may even have to put on some socks by mid week, you never know

I did see a bit of sleet last night that quickly turned to cold rain.
Don't know why but our schools are on a 2 hour delay this morning.
