fuzzi's Chicken Journal

Up to about 70° today, sunny, and windy.

I loosened and turned over the dirt on the inside of the run, which was very exciting!

Then I worked a little on the future blueberry patch. The ground on the end was still wet where the rainwater had pooled, so I didn't turn it, just loosened it.

When I went back over to check on the flock Silas was making his encouraging sounds (or "hurry it up!") while the nesting boxes were occupied.

I had errands to run that I couldn't do over the weekend, so I headed out.

When I returned home I continued loosening the soil, though it was not difficult, as it wasn't as wet. I started turning it over where I could.

I stopped just past the second raised bed, will do more another day.

I did find and remove a number of big roots and small trunks.

Tomorrow I have a friend coming by with his truck, and am planning on going over to Lowe's (home & garden store) to get a couple sheets of T-11 siding. THEN I should be able to make more progress on the hoop coop construction!

Panels purchased and awaiting installation.

I had an appliance delivery scheduled so was unable to go pick up the panels until after 2pm. By the time we got them home and the old set secured on the trailer there was not enough time to accomplish much on the coop before dusk, so I picked up almost three "bushels" of sweet gum balls from the immediate area. I hate those things.

I laid one of the panels against the hoop coop to get a visual, and suddenly realized that it will need to go vertical due to the siding "grooves". Glad I picked up a third panel, will need to piece two together for the back. They are designed to be overlapped, so piecing them together shouldn't be an issue.

Wisp checking it out. She's one of my friendly ferals.

It's a lot colder this morning, but I plan to do something on the coop after church and lunch.

We have them too. They are spikey LOL

Some people do gather them up and make crafts out of them, maybe someday I'll do that (probably not!).
I did collect a lot of pinecones and made a wreath, I liked that, so eh...gum balls would look good mixed in, so maybe.

No. I'm not wishy washy, well, maybe just a little🤣

This doesn't look too bad

I like that gum ball wreath! Never seen one like that!

We have tons of pine cones too. I've been wanting to try to give some a cinnamon scent to use in wreaths or baskets in the house.

I need to prune our scuppernong vines asap. I have in the past made wreaths with those.

Maybe I'll have some "smart moments" as the weather warms. 🤣
