fuzzi's Chicken Journal

On parsley or dill? Black swallowtails.
Carrot foliage.
When I harvested the last of the carrots in late spring, there were still some tiny immature plants. I just left them. Later I went to clean up the area they had started to bloom. Yellow and black swallowtail butterflies were all over the flowers. So I left them again. I usually plant this bed in fall with garlic, onions and carrots. I guess I'm waiting again because there are lots of caterpillers now. I don't want to disturb them.

This week I found these while doing some garden clean up. I believe they are black swallowtail caterpillars. There are lots!

I watched this yellow swallowtail working the lantana. He was standing on his head! 🤣

How about some fluffy faces just because.

Love those fluffy faces❤️

Very cool to see the caterpillars and a butterfly standing on it's head! I have a lot of Black and Yellow Swallowtails this year, they are all over the Thistle and Jewelweed. Very few Milkweed came back and of course Wild Aster and Goldenrod are starting to show off now too.

A very few Monarchs so far this year.

I have seen several Monarchs this year...more than in the past.
