fuzzi's Chicken Journal

Hi to Doris! She is looking very sleek. Why don’t I remember a Doris - is it a New Testament name or are you re-theming?
Oops, my bad, it's DINAH. I was helping my memory by using visuals. Since she has a yellow leg ring I thought "blond" and associated Dinah Shore. But somehow I mixed her up with Doris Day.
:gig
I'll give Dinah your regards!

Too funny! I just watched a Doris Day movie the other day! But yes, my regards to Dinah and not Doris 🤣

And the Sussex "chicks"!

Claudia, Jacob, Lois

They're third generation from original stock Samuel through Zaccheus, but female side could have been from first generation Rahab, or introduced outside genetics from Joanna and Priscilla.

Hey, pretty boy!

This afternoon it was sprinkling (rain) when I headed out to the coops. I collected one egg, in the Sussex coop.

Today's "sides" were small plum tomatoes, a handful of BOSS, and a couple Vienna sausages, they LOVE those! I filled up food, rinsed waterer cups, and topped off oyster shell flakes.

While they were scratching about looking for crumbs I harvested some arugula and Swiss chard leaves. I lay them on the ground inside the hoop coop, then place a brick on the stems to make the leaves easier to tear.

I had a small chard leaf that I held out to Julia, the boldest of the OEGB pullets. She approached, but hesitated. Naomi (Julia's first broody momma) came over and started snatching beakfuls of leaf, so then Julia came over and took a piece of leaf from my fingertips.
:love
