Updates!

Frost was forecast, so on Saturday I set up trellises to use as greenhouses. Here's one over my main carrot crop:

Didn't have enough cattle panel left for a full trellis, but this was enough to cover lettuce and Chinese cabbage

Starting to "head"!

I covered all the garden beds Monday night, but as it was after dark, no photos.

And it did frost, but not freeze.

This guy showed up on Sunday, no idea where from, but was no longer around on Wednesday. I left feed out for him, but had no way of offering shelter.

Saturday morning I went to the animal shelter to walk some dogs, and fell in love!

Look at that face! :love

I found a foster to board him until I retire, November 26th, then adopted him on Wednesday.

Going home!

Foster lady said he's just a puppy, about 9 months old (the shelter said 2 years). He's being housebroken and crate trained before I take him home.

Wow, how do you bend cattle panels on your own?! Those things have lot of fight in them! Your garden looks amazing.

Thank you.

I first saw cattle panel trellises on Gardener Scott's YouTube channel. You can bend them yourself if you are careful. Stand on the panel at one end, facing the end, reach down and grab the end with both hands. Slowly step back, staying on the panel and pulling the end toward you. When you get to the opposite end bring the end you're holding down close to your feet. It bends, but be careful as you step off.

I don't use the full 16' to make the trellis, closer to 10' or 12'. The short sections removed I repurposed as clematis trellis.

Here is his video, you can skip to the 3 minute mark for when he starts cutting it.

Bending part starts at 5:40

I like how he sacrificed the cross wires on each end to create spikes to anchor into the ground.

-I thought it would have more fight than that! Still healing up from the HWC punctures from six days ago. 🙄
My experience is that cattle panel is easier, well, safer than HWC. I used bungees when creating my hoop coops.
