Fuzzy's Farm

Hey there Nova!

Fuzzy... what is the goats name? I have been so worried about him. I am glad he has made it!
Can you wash him to get rid of the last of the lice? Try dawn dish soap... and or Pinesol. Both are great at killing bugs.
I would worry that it would stress him out... but a good rub down might pep him up too.

Chicks.... Pics or it didn't happen

Rusty, I saw a pic on wzzm13 of a bunch of semis submerged in water that was as high as halfway up their front grill. Not sure where that pic was taken, but considering how high up a semi is, that'a a lot of water.

Had to chuckle at goats name. How original But if he's nurtured is his name just Bill?

Wow, that wind is just whipping out there. It is a steady roar right now, not sure of the speed. according to weather bug for my area, 84% chance of thunderstorms... yay....

I have a few very irratated birds. They want out, but, the pool surrounding their compound leaves them no where to go. dang.

Thinking about you tee. Hope you have a safe delivery route today, as water free as possible.

HEY EVERYONE!

that rooster looks like a little version of the one that i miss. He liked babies, too. Idk if he'd go that far, but he certainly protected the TSC chicks from the hens and fed them first sometimes.

Goat has survived! I thought he was dying last night, had to physically drag him out of his house and do a drench on him. Today he greeted us at the gate and talked, and was actually spunky! I think the drench i used was "power punch", it had probiotics in it too. But i really thought i was looking at a dead goat yesterday, wasn't moving and when i got him out his eyes were dead and bloodshot. :( DH wasn't there so don't believe me, but that goat knows he owes me one! The ivomec hasn't knocked all the lice off yet, but has made a significant dent. I think getting the meds plus the probos is what saved his hide.

I'm gonna try to take pics tomorrow, sooooooo mad about the whole situation. With the other guy, with my guy too. It's really hard on me anytime i have to make these kinds of decisions, i haven't slept well at all the last couple days b/c of the stress of trying to think my way through how goats work and which path would be the best.........
Oh Fuzzy, I feel for you 'cause I know how scary it is with a sick goat. But they are really a joy and it sounds like yours is going to do fine. It took DH and I almost a year to feel comfortable about how we are handling all the goat incidents. It's a definite learning curve. Everyone thinks that having a goat is so easy - "they'll eat anything" "you don't have to do anything to keep them healthy" etc. But the truth is goats are very healthy animals if given the right things to eat and the right kinds of meds or supplements. If not, they can go downhill really fast. I think because the average goat is such an inexpensive animal, many people don't take them to the vet or don't take care of them the way they need taking care of because "they're just a goat". In truth, they are really one of the best companion animals I've ever been around and I and DH do everything we can to keep them healthy. I'm so glad that goat has you! I really have learned a lot about goats so if you have any questions, just let me know. Fiasco Farms is an excellent site for goat information also.

We pulled a doe through a really bad infection by giving her a mix of about 2" of probios (it's a gel and squirts out in a "rope") mixed with 1 tsp of cod liver oil and 1 500 mg tablet of Vit C crushed fine (if it's a pygmy use 1/2 tsp and 1/2 tab) every day for 10 days. I mix it all together and then spoon it into a syringe that I cut the top off of. Then just squirt it into the back of the mouth.. Works wonders. Got that from "Natural Goat Care" at http://acresusa.com/toolbox/press/goattop10.html We also gave her antibiotics from the vet first but it seemed like the mixture really did the job.

Geeesh, tee and silver, you guys be safe with all that water. 21 ft? Oh my! Poor soggy chickens. We'd take it down here. Although we've had some great rain but with major storms ripping through and this morning it was 30 degrees outside. Too cold and I lost a couple of plants I forgot to bring in. Is spring and nice warm dry days EVER going to get here? In OK we'll go from this stuff to 118 with no in between. Boy, I'm upbeat this morning
