Fuzzy's Farm

The winds here were not as bad as they were projecting. BUT it came roaring through here just as Aiden and I left he hospital. Lasted about an hours, then settled down. A bit of thunderstorming, but nothing as bad as some other parts got. THANK GOD!

Had the jeep over to the guy who fixed it. He was looking it over, and he's come to the conclusion that I needed a new rad cap. He doesn't think the gasket is shot again, checked that the thermostat was working right, and wouldn't you know it, the freaking hour that it sat in his drive way running, with both our heads under the hood, it never overheated, lost water, started boiling over nothing... SO, I am parked over cardboard right now, he wants me to watch for leaks. He's really thinking it was the rad cap though. I hope he's right. I have put quite a bit of mulah into this jeep, really do not have the funds for a new car at the moment. I asked about an engine blockage, and he said that there was none that he could see when he had the tear down done. He did aske me what happened to the secondary fan though... Never had one since I have owned it. Apparently there is supposed to be one, there is even the mounting brackets still there. SO, he's going to try and pull one on monday, will direct wire it so it's on all the time and won't blow toggles. I'll be able to disconnect in the winter, if I am still driving it in the winter.

AND here comes the funny about the converstation we were having. Some how we got to talking about chickens. I really don't know how it came up, but it had to do with where I lived and what I did... Anyway, the guy is from Puerto Rico originally, and he said when he was growing up there, they had chickens, and he had yellow roosters that came as high as his knee, were big things, and had little chickens that looked like they were covered with cotton balls, but they had white skin, not black... And his favorite were the five toed birds. He asked if he could come by and see my birds, and I told him sure, I was easy to find, told him where I am, and he said, "I go by your house all the time! That's you?!" LOL. Anyway, I am just glad he got back to me and is willing to figure out the problem.

AS for AIDEN!!! OMG! If there wasn't a fiberglass cast on his arm, you'd never know he had a broken arm. LOL. He's only asked for motrin once today. Hand isn't swollen, and he's really quick at figuring out how to do stuff. lol

Oh good i think on aiden. means he's gonna be a handful though :D

I am hoping for the cap

Hey Rusty... yeah, did I miss you doing something to your foot?

Can you believe it... 60 chickens managed to eat 6 pounds of food today... Ok... some of it ended up still on the ground, maybe a pound... but still... Yeah... When i left to go to the hospital last night, i asked the neighbor kid to lock up my birds if I wasn't back by 10... I didn't think to tell him to put the marans feed in the coop with them... by they the time I got to it, it was already soaked... SO... I put up the dry food, and fed my birds and the neighbors birds the wet feed. They made short work of it.

gig glad your back had a good trip and all is safe!
BYFM is that one of the pups you rescued? Looks like she turned out nice. Love her color!
Um, I bummed up my knee on the 31st. Family doc said sprain, ortho said don't know but what he did hurt like hello. So far not much better may have to go back next week. DH took time off from work to help me chores and stuff. he has to go back to work Sunday sure hope it's some better. I'm gonna need a chicken/chick/goose sitter if it's not.
Has this thread really been slow lately of my imagination?
Fuzzy, better make more than one pie. Could you car pool with nova? if she is up and running.
I am planning on going to CS even if Robin has to have one of her little farm wagons and pull my rear end around! Lol
Everyone have a great day!

Yes she is! She is the biggest stinker!
Only when other people are here. When it is just our family she is so good. So bad when friends are over :/

I hope I can see all my MI peeps at CS!!! You HAVE to come! I promise to be more social this year!

Tee, what's wrong with your feet?
Um...nothing. I did smash my pinkie toe a week ago against a box of heavy books and thought I broke it, but I didn't and I don't recall saying anything about it. I also tripped over a light cord with my bad leg which caused pain and swelling for a few days, but I don't recall relaying that, either.

I haven't had much to say lately because I've been busy with trying to get the garden in and being a handy gal around the house. So much to do with so little time. Anyway, the chickens have been doing okay, loving the free ranging and all. They found a way to get in to the garden so i had to re-fence the whole thing a few days ago. Now if I could just find a way to keep them from terrorizing my flowers it'd be great.

I did have one bit of sad news, though, when I got home. My DS told me that we lost one of my barred rocks during the night. He found her on the floor of the coop this morning when he let everyone out. He didn't see anything wrong with her and had already buried her before I got home so I didn't get a chance to look her over. She was one of my original flock and was 2 1/2 years old. Makes me sad because I just love my barreds.

Well, I had to bring in the little blue polish several days ago. I noticed that it was all puffed up and not moving, except to wobble back and forth. I watched for bit and took her out and came to the conclussion that she may not have been eating. Not really sure...

I put her in an old aquarium in the house on a white towel, i wanted to see what her poop looked like, force fed her some water, then literally force fed her yolk, crumble mash till her little crop was filled up. Then set her next to the brooder so she'd get residual heat off of it, and also so she'd still see the chicks, and not be distressed about being alone. (She was already a loner, I probably should have taken her out sooner) So, the next morning, got up, and she was still alive, more active, eating and drinking on her own. I had given her poultry drench and probios water. Examined her poops and they looked absolutely normal. She was still weak and slept a lot, droopy. But she was eating and drinking. The next day, she was even more active, but yesterday was a different story. She became very lethargic, kept sleeping in her feed dish wouldn't drink unless I dipped her beak, and this early afternoon, she let out a loud peep, and was gone. I went and checked on her when I heard that peep, and yeah... Was kind of very bumming. We were looking at having a house chicken. Yes, I am serious, I was going to keep her in the house with us and the brooder babies until they were close enough in size to put together.

Anyway, Aiden and I went out and buried her in the chicken cemetary and I was quite surprised to see Aiden crying after he put the little chick in the hole. He has never cried over a past chicken, but he really likes these funny headed polish.

All of the other birds that were with her are fine. They are showing no signs of distress, their poos are normal, they are feathering out very well and are just a royal pain in the butt at bed time. LOL. But hey, they didn't have a mama teach them to go up and down.

The current house chicks are at a week old now. The Great Derpinksi is still with us. After adding probiotics to their water, I haven't had any crusty butts at all. They are getting their little butt... I mean tail feathers. The polish still attack my kids fingers when they push them between the bars. They're favorite place to sleep these days is in the food dish too. Next week they'll be moving to the out door brooder and will have all that room to go bat poop crazy. They'll be getting their first bowl of dirt. I am still thinking there are 2 blues, 2 black and one splash.

The little japs are still the most adorable chicks. They run like crazy to get away, but the minute they are in my hand they settle right down and are very calm. I can't believe how calm they are! They aren't even shaking! The yokos though... THEY act like I am killing them. Yup. LOL

Fuzzy, I am up for the carpooling. I am thinking the jeep should be ok to go there. I will know by thursday if there's going to be a change of plans... There will be a second fan on it, AND the new rad cap is on. I will be so pithed off if it all just turned out to be a bad rad cap to begin with. ALL THOUGH, i know the head gasket was bad... there was oil in the water. Just culminated... We can ride together. I will go prepared, with extra water and make sure the water is checked and at levels before leaving and halfway through if need be. I can only go about 55, so I know it'll take a little longer, but. We'll also be going faster, not that stop and go crap that over heats it. It works fine on the driving part of my route, not the door to door part... ANYWAY... Up to you. I am thinking I might not take the boy this time though... He'll enable me to bring back birds I shouldn't. LOL
