Fuzzy's Farm

It sounds like you all are getting what we had last summer. Absolutely horrible heat. The thing my birds liked best was a mister. I bought one of those twisted ones you find cheap at wallyworld and they hung out around it all day. At night I had fans going in the coop so much it was like a hurricane in there. We didn't loose a bird to the heat. This summer it's been fairly cool but so so humid because we've had tons of rain . Yucky mucky mud everywhere. I've been shoveling sand grand spreading stall fresh all over which helps.

So here I am applauding my own genius!

I hooked an "add-a-motor" (the same that runs the automatic coop pop door) to the hook on the door of the goat barn along with a timer. Now, it pops the hook loose at 7 in the morning and because of a counter weight, the door swings open and the goats can get out to their pasture early and I don't have to let them out at 7am - whooo hooooo! I am the McGuyver of the goat world

p.s. I am also very humble.... (-;

Those birds are beautiful, Nova. You always have the prettiest birds.

Tee, I'm so sorry about your buffy. That's horrible.

I agree about the air conditioners, fuzzy. We have one in our bedroom and I don't know how I'd sleep without it.

Uh oh, did you treat? That's no good!

BYFM, wow mites on eggs? Never happened to me, that would creep me out! Lol.. So guess you had to mite treat? I try to do it every little bit to keep problem own. It's awul In summer months. My girls are all back to laying after my experience with the two hens I took eggs from. No more broodys for me this summer either. I'm done with chicks for a while!

Sorry I haven't been on in a while...

I didn't treat for mites... all the chickens look good and I haven't seen anymore mites since I cleaned it all out.
I think they just were taking advantage of my broody.
And to be truthful... they might not have been mites. I just assumed that is what they were.

RaZ is a grandpa! His ladies, Lemon and Pepper's babies

More UGGO chicks!!!! But they are so stinkin cute!
Shawarma hatched them out! She is such a good mama!
I am now up to 14 chickens!

Where did you all go????

Has anyone here dealt with or have knowledge about skunks and chickens? I have a new addition to the coop, a juvenile skunk has decided to sleep in my nest boxes at night and eat my eggs!

I kinda like him, not so much the pooping in there. I want to make sure he won't eat them though.

I am here!
I thought both of the chicks were NNs but only the light one is. The other is a chipmunk

Mama took the babies out of the coop today.

I wish these silkie babies would grow a little faster so I could put them in the coop instead of in the garage. They are still so small, but I loves to cuddle with them!!!

This was my weekend off, but i am beyond broke. :( I did ask on the MI thread about the skunk friend and they do indeed eat chickens. Not always, but the threat is there...... also i saw a fair amount of poo on top of the nestbox that is touching the lower of the 2 roosts, so it is safe to assume he was trying to get up there.

They were locked down last night, and i'll keep doing it since the weather is cooler. Dang thing broke my already bad budget by eating a good deal of my pellets too. Darn, when it rains it pours!

I gotta find a roomie or a second job asap because i had to file a complaint against my boss fri. She had asked me about buying another uniform shirt since mine was stained (white, kitchen, need i say more?) and the other new hire too. I said NO because they get stained as soon as you put them on and they are costly. She said she'd buy it out of petty cash, then apparently signed her name to take a withdrawal out of my check! Needless to say i was pretty p.o.'d . The other 3 main workers that have been there for years are just buying cheap polo's and t's to wear, not even the uniform at all! So she must be on a power trip and i had to be the stick in the mud to end it. :( Unfortunately she also makes my schedule and i'm not guaranteed hours at all, so......... but dang! I had to say something. This wasn't the only forged documenting she has done this month either so if i'm lucky she goes, if not she gets counseled and i will have to deal with an even angrier boss who is trying very hard to get me to quit. (The boss of my boss likes me and my work so i've been hanging in there hoping something would budge)

Fuzzy, the skunk needs to go. It's more apt to get your chicks. Find the hole, and kick it out.

About the job... Dude, if you can afford the drive, try getting your apps in around here. Might be able to find something better, or even Zeeland. I know you are limited on your employment options up there. Put your boss's name down as your job reference. Even explain to your boss's boss your reasons. Tell em, you don't really want to have to leave, but that your boss is going above and beyond to make your working day miserable, and it's not a healthy working relationship, but you do not feel you will get a fair reference out of her. That bad word...

My raccoon attack victim is wholey on the mend. She's got skin everywhere now. She's roosting up high on the garage rails with the other birds! I am super happy about that. She has not gone and started laying again, and I do not expect any more eggs from her this year. She's got my vote on no eggs until she's completely healed. Poor girl.

My phoenix have started roaming farther from their coop and pen. They are so darn adorable in their littleness. I have one pullet who will not be good for breeding. She carries a short tail gene. Bummer. I won't be able to breed for quality with her, but will be able to breed pet quality. She is very sweet.

Grandpa RaZ. LOL. Who's he going to get to take care of his pups if they probation officer gets her way? BYFM?

Gigi... how's your trouble making Georgie?? Wasn't that her name?

Hi Savannah! I am agreeing on the chicked out. LOL Sacrilege!
