Fuzzy's Farm

not much going on here, that's why i haven't posted much. The trailer project is kinda put on hold because of funding, kinda sucks because had i $350 i could put flooring in both my kitchen AND living room, menards had a heck of a sale. 77 cents a square on laminate including padding! Drat. Have to put bills first though.

Babies are growing a bit, mom is doing better with me mostly because i haven't had time to mess with them. :) But she's happy and they are happy, so i guess that makes me happy .

Well... An update in Novaland...

We've got heat and humid conditions in the chicken yard. The sled has been put out for drinking and standing, and frozen corn was on the surpise menu this morning. Looking forward to a rain storm, wash away the last several days of yard poop. With 5 broody hens, the broody bombs have grown in number, looking more like a dog has come along and crapped all over the yard. Yuck.

Little Pretty, the survivor of the serial killer is thriving. It has been 2 weeks tomorrow already. Boy how time does fly! No infection, skin is growing to cover the holes. The redkote that I used on her keeps the flies away also! BONUS!

Bills... suck... You'll get it soon fuzzy... takes time, but you'll there.

Mr. Ed and the lemon blue cockerel... haven't named him yet... working on it... Have figured out how to get to the top of their run door. It's 6 feet up.

He's so lovely...

On the roost in the run...

The little white one... Geisha (better be a girl) is standing by the way... Just thought you should know that. LOL I know right! Where are her legs? I love those little jap bantams. LOL

those are some drop dead gorgeous birds, nova!

i am considering dropping some dough on an ac unit. Don't wanna, but i think i need to for the sake of my pidgeon and my broody hen i'm watching in there. Trailer does ok in normal heat but this is too much. :( If i do it'll put me back behind on my bills again.

Put a fan in one window facing out at one end of the house, one facing in at the other. Create an airflow. The heat is atrocious.

Anyway, I was doing papers today and I got super lucky. For some reason I walked out the door with my camera. Something I never do, but I just felt like it. I am glad I did. No, this isn't the bestest picture, and it is a simple camera, but I sure was pleased with the picture.

Now... about my Little Pretty. Last night I went to let her out for her walk about. I noticed some icky crap in her cage, checked it out, and it was a scab. EW. So, I got a hold of her when she went to try and roost with the other birds in the garage, and checked her out. She's got skin completely covering the wounds! YES! It is thin yet, like tissue papers, so she'll still be i confinement, but you all know what that means right? No more redcoat treatments, no more worry of infection. SWEET! I will try and get a picture of her tonight.

Fuzzy... I know how you feel about your broody... Try having 5 in this heat and 2 who are brooding TOGETHER! Silly butt birds.

Second the fan plan. That's what we do to help the circulation. Want to add it's best if you turn the fans according to where the sun is. We do the fans in an east/west so in the morning the east window fan is turned out and the west window fan turned in so the air coming in is from the shaded area of the house and then at midday we turn them around since the east is then shaded. We also just bought some room darkening curtains I found on clearance at Meijer and put them in the living room so the heat from the sun reflects off them versus just pouring in. It has helped a lot.

It was so hot out there today. The route I was on has a trailer park so I had to stand out there for 30+ minutes sorting the mail into the units. Talk about a sweat-a-thon. And then I got back in the mail truck and the little fan stopped working. Was not fun sitting in that hot thing without any relief except my water and gatorade. At least the route was one of the shorter ones and I was done within 3 hours, but still, yuck.

And last, I really wish people would not drive down my road so excessively fast. There's really no reason for it and considering that our house sits surrounded by corn fields and some wooded area, you wouldn't want to anyway because deer are always popping through there. And yet, they always do and then there are times when one of my animals is unfortunately too close to the road. Today it was one of my buffs. Saw her as I was slowing down for the driveway and it wasn't pretty. Poor thing.

Ah, sorry tee... That sucks, poor hen...

Sucks to about the work drive. I so totally know how you feel. TOTALLY. You need a cool wrap. I need to run to BBB tonight and see if they have any in stock. Tomorrow is going to be a long hot day as well. Got to get my water bottles frozen and ready to go.

Nope, even with my trailer mostly in shade and air flow with fans it was still 95 in the coolest parts, and birds were just shy of hyperventilating in there. Me too, really. So...... budget is crap but hopefully i can just live cheap for a bit and catch back up; the other option is to cash in my energy rebate thing from my tax return; i was saving it for this winter's heat bill though. Hm. Anyway, i'm only doing the back half of the trailer unless i've got company and keeping it around 80 ; which actually feels kinda cold with the obsene heat. It's a 12,000 BTU indoor floor unit.

I slept like a baby that first night, totally worth it and i'm looking at it as an investment, keeping it positive. Another deciding factor was seeing a huge house fire on the way home from work. Probably a barn fire, but i got to thinking about those fans being on 24 / 7 and i've had them go bad before and come home to a house full of smoke..... scary stuff. And then later after we installed it i saw ambulances at a trailer not far from mine..... probably heat stroke. So i decided fans were not my friend in this situation.

So if you get too hot and don't mind hanging out in a hovel, and the kids wanna go swimming this weekend, ........ ? It really is horrible, everything is stripped down with pitted subfloor and no trim, lots of unfinished projects. But i keep doing what i can :)

In bird news henry has been spared thus far, i really don't wanna do the deed but he's getting steadily worse. Yesterday he attacked my hand hard core when i reached down to put food in their feeder and it was hard enough to make my hand numb and stiff for minutes :( He's just plain scared of people at this point. Idk why but it is what it is; could be because i'm not spending as much time but at any rate i can't be attacked like that. Babies are getting bigger by the day with obsenely huge feet feathers, so cute! So far so good no red combs. I have a week to the 3 week checkup; that breed usually starts reddening up at 3-4 weeks of age. These look like they will be show quality, if the feet are any indication. :D Hope is hanging out in the trailer with broody momma and me. I tried bringing home my silver and blue roo but he grew some spunk . In his defense hope pulled his hair first, but it was funny to watch in a way because he's so timid usually. :D I think if the other roo is gone he'll shape up to be a very nice boy. Ive not seen that color very many times, i need to get a pic but i have been holding off bc the girls have terrorized his tail right off. ???
