Fuzzy's Farm

Do any of you use sand in your run? I'm seriously thinking about putting 3-4 inches in the run as the dirt turns to this horrible smelly mud when it rains. From what I'm reading, people seem to like sand in the run and in a poop board (I'm using that and it's sooo easy to clean) but not so much on the floor of the coop as it stays too cold in the winter. What do you guys think?

still mostly at a standstill, hours at work got dropped to 20!!! yikes. So had to make the hard decision to get a different job. Full time factory with OT optional; and walking distance! yay! kinda. But it's super easy and the other workers are friendly. I've kept the other job every other weekend just in case i decide to go back to school this next year. Who knows, you know? I really do see myself as a vet tech, or some kind of bird worker.

But, i did find some imitation wood cabinets for the 4 foot section that are super pretty! They are a cherry ish color that match my table. The other cabinets are going to be a dark walnut maybe. Not real, but at $10 I can't quibble! Once my checks start rolling in from the other place i'm hoping to get back on track with the fixing.

I'm still looking for homes from my EE's.

Hi Gigi, byfm, fuzzy, rusty and Nova.

Nova, my daughter is having a heck of a time with it yet. She only had the 2 bottom wisdoms out, but it was enough. Her face is so swollen and she has bruising going down both sides of her mouth with the left side being the worst. She honestly looks like she went a few rounds in a boxing ring. She can only open her mouth so far because she is still having quite a bit of pain yet and she doesn't really want to talk because of it. She will if she has to, but otherwise she's being pretty quiet. We've been doing what the dentist said to do for pain control switching between the advil for swelling and tylenol 3 for pain. They do help when she takes them, but they wear off before she can have more. We're also doing moist heat for the swelling, too, which makes it feel better for a bit. I feel so bad for her because she just looks miserable. I don't remember it being this way when I had mine done and her brother had his done earlier this year with the same dentist as her and he didn't have it that bad, either. Of course, the dentist did warn us that because she is so petite that she would have a lot of swelling. Basically said her face would look like a pumpkin. He really wasn't kidding.
She actually said to me tonight that if she still had the bruises and swelling on Thursday that she wasn't going to go to school. I forgot that they are doing senior pics that day for their school id's. Go figure, right?

Awww. When i had my (one) wisdom out it was nothing like that. Didn't feel it coming out, When i did feel it it wasn't that bad at all. I guess i got lucky? Or maybe it's to do with more than one at once. Poor thing, senior pics??? Can they do a late one for her?

I asked her that, but she wasn't sure. I would think that there are picture retakes for them, though, since I know they usually do for the other grades. I'm just glad it's not for THE senior pictures. She's not doing those just yet. The year book people don't need those until spring so she's got some time before worrying about that. It's not like when I was a senior. We had to have them done before the start of the year by a professional photographer. My daughter's school doesn't even require that. They're okay with just a photo you take yourself. All they need is for you to bring it in, then they scan it and give it back. My son did that for his senior photo because he doesn't like his pic taken and it was enough just to stick him outside in front of one of our trees for an outdoorsy photo. My daughter wants me to take hers as well, but we're being more selective on where to take shots and clothing options so she can have some really nice ones. I got a very nice camera dslr for my birthday so once I figure out the basics I should be able to take just as nice of one as any professional.

It's a short story, of some silly chickens, who think my ears are just grand,
While i was feeding bread, they thought they could eat them,
And it made me really mad! LOL

Sing it to the Brady bunch theme... LOL.

Ok, here's how it all started... Starting with the ring leader...

Coco Chanel is molting. Coco is a common breed of what is it chicken. She just finished brooding, I won't let her brood, she forgets she has chicks after they hatch... Idiot hen... ANYWAY, she is the worst molter ever in my flock. Bare back, bare wings, bare belly, chest, neck... AND EVIL about it too!. I took bread out last night to give my ladies on the roost, since it was going to be cold. Apparently I was not giving it ALL to her ONLY so every time I turned to give peices to others, she'd attack my ears. SO, what did that mean aside from sore ears? It meant that it was "Teaching Moment" and Sheh-Sheh decided it was a good way to get my attention back to HER, and then Ebony caught on and I had 3 Freaking Ear Peckers! Needless to say, I have definitive proof that passing out or dying in my run/coop would be a bad thing as I have tastey ears. Lesson learned.

Gigi... Yes, hopefully I will be on more in the winter... Not too chatty because not too much is happening
I had sand in my run (it is on cement) and I threw straw in it over the winter... That was a terrible idea!!!! It turned into a chicken poop brick!
So if you are going to do sand don't let it get mixed in with other organics and get wet.... Ewwwwww
But before I put straw in it and let it get wet... I loved the sand. But would replace it still every 6 months

Hey everyone. Got the marans run finished. IT WAS A PITA! The first morning they didn't even realise that they could get out of the coop and into the run. LOL. THey are so used to waiting for me to open the door, and Strutter gets so excited when I get there to open up, he starts chattering and stomping in place. LOL. Now they are out right early.

How's the repairs going Rusty?

Gigi, how's doing?

Where has Savannah been?
