Fuzzy's Farm

Well you are both right now I feel like a mean chicken mom I did everything wrong with putting cinnamon in with Ole Sam and Miss Prissy! Poor Cinnamon! Anyway I am going to try this all over, called my friend and she's taking Ole Sam home with her today, he is mean and I don't like mean roosters! So now gotta fix this for poor Cinnamon, I just put her in there yesterday afternoon, didn't do it right and put her in after dark! I feel so bad for her! Now I've got to catch Ole Sam and get him in cage, and I'm scared of him! Any suggestions? Help!!!
Don't feel like a mean mom, Savannah. (Oh, by the way, I love your name. I was going to name one of my kids that but then they all turned out to be boys - lol). Anyway, you are doing things right and it's so live and learn with chickens. I can't tell you how many times I've wished I've done something differently. But this forum is so great (the people) about helping 'cause we've all been there. I often wish my grandmother was still alive. She had 5,000 chickens back in the day and they were all raised cage free. She could have told me everything I needed to know but now there's Nova, Fuzzy, Rusty, Robin, Tee, Mom2, CF4L, BobBry, Total, BYFM, Olive and you! We just can't go wrong with such a group!

Sheh-Sheh.... she know's I am up to no good...

Sheh-Sheh's babies. One was still on its way out. Non are pures under her, but here are 3 of the four. The seriously chickmunky one is so darn cute!

Big Red with one of her babies. The others were to chicken (pun) to come out of their coop. I ended up taking them out when she took this little guy with her under the big coop for a much needed dust bath. Anyway, cute fluffy butts are faverolles... no idea what sex yet... but they've all started getting those wing feathers. AND the one that came out of the 3/4 faverolles/1/4 lt brahma egg (Little Pretty's) has a black dot on its head. Freaking cute as heck. Watch it be a boy...

I got to see something neat today. I was driving back to a house to drop off some parcels and they had a structure with an aviary attached halfway up the drive. On the roost were 3 very big, beautiful peacocks. There were more on the ground, too, but these 3 were just awesome. As I drove by, they cocked back their heads and cawed. Neatest alarm system I ever saw. LOL

Of course, with something neat you have to have something that isn't. And today was just one thing after another. Between bashing my head against the knob thing that snaps the sun visor in place when I accidentally hit into a curbside which popped the car up and almost getting hit head on from some idiot driver that decided he wanted to pass a few cars as he crested a hill that I was cresting at the same time (I had to swerve off the road), it's just been a day.

Think I'll just go put my pj's on and go hide in bed with the covers pulled up.

Savannah

Ive caught Many many with a net. My husband has a fishing net with an extendable handle so I can make it very long...in fact, at Chicken stock it has helped catch a couple escapees. Just swoop and pen them down with the net. Then move in quickly and extract the bird. It takes a minute to untangle them but the trick is, once you have ahold of them dont let go. lol.
When you take the roo off the nest you want to grab him and then hold him close so his beating wings cant hurt you. Tuck him right in against your chest with your hands over his wings. If he is throwing a fit, its okay to grab him by his legs and drop him in a carrier if you have to. The goal is to do it all very quickly so you dont get hurt.

I had a large male muscovy that busted my front tooth with his wings when flapping them in my face (bad grab). So, the whole "protect yourself" is for real.

Tee- peacocks sure are beautiful. Robin has a bunch of them. Id love to have some if they werent so loud! Glad you didnt get hurt in your driving chaos today. Stay safe.

LOL, I think pj and avoidence of all things vehicular are in order.

Gigi, I took pics of those artifacts. With the searching I have been doing, I am thinking they are pre-columbian seals/stamps. On has a handle with a head of a panther or a dog of some sort. Well anyway, not sure what group it came from, other than my Gran dug them up in Central America... The one seal I took 3 pics of the scene so I could get the detail. They are really quite cool. ONLY I don't know nothing...

I can email them to you too if you might know who to forward them too to ask... Thanks

I think you aught to just let Georgie do her own thing all the time cuz she sounds like a trip and a half. OH, and get it on video.

All my birds are out and about. I tried to let the faverolles out, but then big butt Florus decided to set off the alarm, all his girls ran back in to hide next to him under the bates motel... and so I just left them... Almost time to go and check the last chick for deformaties.

I adore their blue coloring, it's so pretty, but, yes, they were super loud!
