Fuzzy's Farm

Oh, and coopersville has a strinct no tolerance for farm animals within city limits, so any house babies would have to be on the down-low!

(A friend said i should just bring her out in a cat carrier.......hmm......... ) ! :)

Aside from a future coat of paint... It is done! I may in future also find a "just right" window... We'll see. I even managed a side nest box. I did change the lid on the nest box and am using a peice of the for sale sign now. Neighbor helped me cut it STRAIGHT. LOL
I also added a block board up there under the roof so it's still vented out the front, but if the rain is coming out of the east, it will not go in the coop. I hope I left enough gaps at the top for ventilation.

I figure Strutter is a pretty tall guy, so the roost is lower, but the hens can walk under it. I didn't want Strutters comb touching the ceiling if he were to be standing on the roost. From the ceiling, there is also a hook hanging for the water... or the food... Not sure which. Also, will be able to hang a fish tank lamp in the winter.

The gap in the back is an inch and a half. Yes, it will have hardware cloth over it to keep out anything that can climb up the side and try and get in. I decided to not have a hole in the floor. They will just have to wait on me to let them out in the AM.

SO... How's my $23 coop looking? I am VERY happy with my "by the seat of my pants" design. LOL

uugh. I left out an hour before closing time at the office park, but i see that the ad is deleated on CL. :( I thought trailer park offices were closed on the weekend??? So either she was considerate and took down the ad for me, since she knew i was considering it for the weekend, or......... :( I just spent the day looking at flooring and appliances, and dreaming up the perfect look on the cheap.......................... :(

So bummed out. DH and I found one of the light brahmas dead when we went out to feed everyone this evening. She'd been fine this morning. Looks like she just dropped dead. I have no idea what happened but just a real downer. Tomorrow I'm going to clean out the coop and disinfect things. I also found an egg that looks like it had been pecked. I've had a couple of broken eggs recently and now am wondering if someone is eating them...what do I do about that?

Hi BYFM. I'm glad the pups ear is healing. He'll have "character" now - lol.

Hi Fuzzy. Read your note on integrating the chicks. I'm getting ready to do that. My girls are 8 wks old next Friday. Do you all think that's too young? They are living side by side right now so are used to each other but haven't been actually together yet.
I hope the rental works out. Finding the right place can be tough.

Anyway, my neck hurts, my head aches, my feet feel like someone fat has been walking all over creation on them... oh wait... my feet hurt from walking so much today... BUT Got a lot accomplished. OH, AND I moved that frame from my drive way to the back using a winter sled. Man.. who would have ever thought a sled would come in so handy. We put it up on the sled, my neice and nephew kept it steady and I pulled till we got it in place! SO, that's why my arms hurt. Gracious I am so filthy.
Cool, Nova. I use my I use my flat plastic sled for everything! It slides over gravel and grass so easily so I use it for dragging logs around and bales of hay and whatever. I should have bought two as this ones starting to crack and now winter stuff is long gone

Hi Silver. That's great about your hatch!

Sorry about your brahma, Gigi. Sometimes you never know why it happens. Last year, my DS found one of our RIRs in the coop dead. Couldn't find any reason for it. The only thing I could figure was that maybe it had something to do with her genetics as she was hatchery quality.
There may be a few squabbles when you integrate, but they'll figure it out for themselves and be all good for you.

Have a good day everyone. We're going to be dismantling our huge fallen tree and moving the goats to their new pen today.

Thanks, tee. Everyone else looks fine so I don't think it was a contagious thing. I completely emptied the coop, washed it down, and then opened up the hardware cloth between the two flocks. The older girls acted quite put out by these young "kids" running everywhere. It was pretty funny because I can just imagine what they are saying...what in the world are these annoying youngsters doing in OUR run!
