Fuzzy's Farm

We locked up the goats (I couldn't get the chickens in - stupid chicks) and spent most of the evening in the closet. It's supposed to be a safe room but when those F4's come barreling through I think the only thing safe is underground. The tornado went directly over us but didn't touch down - thank goodness. It hit the lake, picked up even more power and then hit the trailer park that's just about completely destroyed. I feel so sorry for them. DH and I are seriously thinking about having a shelter put in but 3 thousand is a lot of money so I don't know One hit and it would pay itself though. We've now had three VERY close calls. I went out later to check on the girls and they were just puttering around as if nothing had happened and the goats were simply mad at being locked up way before their bedtime.

Hi everyone
frow.gif

Ya' all know I usually don't have much to say anyway.
Been busy lately. Outside yard work and all. Robin drag me off to an auction. And I didn't even buy anything. Thought I had enough with 3 brooder boxes full and more eggs in the incubator.
Having to get busy building coops. I swore I wouldn't raise chicks in the basement again after the mess (chicken dust) but did I listen to myself? NO I didn't.
Boy how time flies Silver I thought you just set those eggs.
gigi sorry you having a hard time having to deal with your dad's stuff.
To everyone that has lost birds or is having a hard time dealing with stuff

But I love ypu saying it - lol.

Yeah, about the dust. I did the same thing and now have spent the last 2 days trying to de-dust the upstairs.

Thanks for the hugs, Rusty.

Mine is NOT, so she keeps escaping, so is therefore the only bird out free ranging out in the heat of the day with no water and no food :( She won't show me her spot, but i think i found it and seriously it looks like a 3 inch gap!!! She's a big girl, too..... ! The other one is the black and white, can't figure out if she's silver or if she's splash; I gotta get rid of some of my birds because i'm over my limit for the size of the camper, and they are picking on each other. I'm still gonna downsize for the summer, gonna keep the two blues with henry for future blue breeding, and those two are too human oriented for me to give to just anyone!

Long and short, i would be terribly sad if they got pecked off, but i'd rather know they lived happy before it happened than in a random place that may not even allow for treats and ranging.

Morning!
gigi, glad to here everything OK. I would cash in my piggy bank for a shelter after several close calls. One would have scared me enough to think about a shelter. Especially living in tornado alley! IMO anywhere that is tornado pron should have a storm shelter included in the building plans. No shelter, no build permit.
Fuzzy how is going with the trailer?
I get to play garden tractor mechanic today. For once the parts store has the part I need (the worst) the other two have to be ordered. Grrrr take one to two weeks to come in. Then another trip into town to get them.
I think I will also stop at TSC and get a roll of fence and some post and make a move-able pen for my geese. They might like getting outdoors. Plus a plus for me less mess in there brooder box. Boy geese are messy and lots of poo too.

Gigi glad you are safe and storm didn't get you, sorry for the people who lst so much! Nova how's all your new hatches doing? I've been so busy. Had to build another coop and fenced area to move the bantams with their family of chicks, then move my new ducklings and chicks into their coop. Wow, I started off a short time ago with 9 hens and 3 roosters, now I have them plus 20 more plus 3 ducklings! This poultry business is addicting! When does it stop? Now I see what you are all talking about! :) And now I want a incubator! My husband wants to choke me! Lol... I love it. How's new place coming fuzzy? Hope great? And Nova loved the pics you posted. And sorry about the lose of your birds. :( I know it will happen to me at some point, and I dread it. I've made sure to put netting up on all the tops of my pens, and tried to make sure all is secure. But know we can never be safe enough. I'm feeling little under weather think I've been pushing myself too hard. But anyway everyone have great day.... :) :)

Everything is going along OK, i moved in this week finally. Still rough, but i have a toilet, LOL. I have electric, and water; just not the plumbing everywhere yet; we had to start over since the last guys mucked it up so good.

I THINK we are finally done with all the major tear-out, DH is still working on cutting out and patching in the soft spots in the floor, i have removed the broken doors and the funky trim from everywhere; today was the yearly spring clean up dumpster and last week was my "working every day" week, so VERY busy trying to get as much done as possible so we didn't have to pay for all that crap to come out!

Next big project is going to be to find a tub surround; at least one short side and one long side; may look into one of those fancy shower rods that curve around instead of building a wall on the other short end since i think it makes it look so much bigger! This next week i am going to be buying some cheap paint from the habitat for humanity store and painting as much as possible,

Also looking for a black stove and fridge, :)

I also need to move a tad quicker on rehabing that chicken diaper pattern, i wanted to do my own version but i am anxious to get hope home with me :)

Other than that i'm only keeping a trio of the blues, the porcelain trio, and whatever hatches possibly; once things slow down a bit and i can spend more time with the birds i can look into the possibility of orloffs and chocolates. I'm thinking some bird netting over my run, bigger fence to protect my flowers; dig in predetor proof fencing around the camper perimeter to prevent any accidents! All in time.

Fuzzy, you just made me tired with your to-do list. It reminds me I have a to-do list to start hitting if I want everything done for tomorrow. Anyway, hope you can find the stuff you still need.

Gigi, glad everything is okay for you. I'm with Rusty on the shelter. 3 close calls is 3 too many.

Speaking of storms, we just had a crazy one blow through here. I was on my way home from work and it was completely black behind me. When it hit, it hit hard. Wipers on as high as they would go and still not fast enough. Couldn't see 10 feet in front of the car. Looks like the next few days will be stormy from the look of the forecast. Glad I don't work again til Thursday.

Thanks for all the good wishes everyone. Major tornados today also. They went over norman and one F5 (mile wide) hit Moore which is where DS and DIL work. We were frantic - couldn't get text or phone call through. We heard that two elementary schools were hit and DIL works as a third grade teacher in one. Also that the city municipal buildings were hit which is where my son works. Finally heard from them that they were okay. DS said that they were hiding in the bathroom and the tornado went through and sucked all the air out of the building. He said he though he was going to die. Then DIL (who is 4 months pregnant) called and said that her elementary was not hit very hard and that they got all the kids in the basement. Supposedly there are 75 kids still trapped in the elementary that was just south of where she teaches. Not a good day at all but at least family is safel. Weather is supposed to calm down tomorrow and that's good because I have to drive to Alva and open the estate account and talk to the property management people. Don't want to run into tornados on my 3 hour drive.

Goats are so hacked off that they've been shut in their barn all day.

Hope you feeling better Savannah. And it's so good to see you here Fuzzy. I've been dying to know what you are doing to the trailer. What an adventure.
