I was trying to figure out how I ended up finding this thread... then it hit me. I did a search on suet recipes. It brought me here.

Does someone have suet recipes? I really can't go through almost 4000 posts to find it.

I would goat to work for ya if i wasnt so far away ... and tending to two crippled babies ....i lost my little bumblebee last night

and im doing my best to take care of the two other chicks i got (d'uccles not silkies as originally thought) out of this hatch .. tonight i got them to take somemore vitamin water and some fruit mash (like babyfood) with a few crumbles in it .. i am hand feeding and it isnt easy but one has taken to it well and the other is doing okay .... I was going to do another duck hatch but have decided against it with the way my luck has ran .... and i should soon be busy with school work and the babies are work and when DH does get to come home id like some time with him that doesnt involve tracking up and down the stairs ... Supplies the duck was still lonely so DD move him to her rooom and he has quit crying so much ..... Ive missed all of you the past few days .... I just thought it would be rude to be on too much with family here that had traveled 1600 miles to spend the holidays with me ... was great to see them though ...

This is my dad with mine and my sisters kids .. the only two grandkids he has missing in this picture are my oldest and my brothers son

I had posted recipes, but not suet? Maybe the word "recipe" is what the search found? You are more than welcome to hang out though, just because we haven't done it yet don't mean we won't! Bunch of do-it-yourselfers

I put plain beef fat (suet) out that i found at my local grocery store a couple years ago, hardened into a brick when it froze in the snow but the birds ate it anyway!!! (some stores will save the suet/ fat trimmings off the meat if you ask) I think the fancy way was to melt it down, stir in birdseed and maybe something to keep it a bit softer.........?

I liked all the options! I have a mental pic of what i want my cookbook to look like, this way you can order a few to see it it's what you imagined, then do the rest as needed! (IF you get to keep your copyright)

I did not get to say goodbye to my roo. DH's uncle had done the deed already this morn, i had told him to let me know when it was time. He is not so sentimental as I am, he must've shrugged it off and "got er done". Never again, either i will do it or DH will do it.

Does any of you know if chickens can get sick from mouldy bread? *sigh* DH's uncle had thrown several loaf's worth all over the coop without asking. I told his wife i didn't want no more of it in there (polite as possible) I am so frustrated lately. I have told them before not to do it, told the neighbor not to do it, and it still gets done. Keeps up i'll pay the electric hike instead of paying him to do the water, i'd rather have a human backup but i'd rather not if it's going to continue along this line.

DH was happy yesterday though, he got 2 does! That cold snap must've got them moving finally. Me, not so much. Lol. I get cold even thinking about going out the door!

chickens can die from moldy bread.

If you come home and find it in the coop, you probably ought to rake it up. Hopefully they will not have eaten much. If you have kids, you can have them do it... I know something like this is not something we plan for in our schedules and having kids available is sure a good thing most of the time.

No, i don't have kids. I live in an apartment in town right now, the chickens are kept at DH's family property. Usually we drive out there to take care of the animals, garden, and DH meets up with family to do his hunting/ fishing. I recently found a job, expected it to be second shift but it was first! That will be a good thing, but not while the water dishes are freezing! Even if i wanted to do the water myself i'd have to do it so early in the morn/ night that it would be froze back over by the time i got there!

I ran a heated water dish a couple years ago but these particular family renters are horrendous liars about the electric bill! I won't re hash the details, but suffice it to say it wouldn't be beyond them to charge $50 a month! But i'm already paying this guy that much a month just so i have a backup in case i can't make it out there.....

I think he thinks i'm going overboard, and not paying attention because he don't really understand what the fuss is about........you bet your bottom the first thing i did was shoo the birds out and frantically get to picking it up! He had even given a ton of it to my 8 week olds, threw it in their poo too , Bleh. I keep telling him not to put feed on the floor, not to overfill the feed dishes so it gets on the floor. I know they can get sick if they are constantly digging in poopy food too.

Any other time i am out there to scrape and wash the coop floor, (linoleum) and completely rinse and refill the water so they get a minimum of ick in their feed and water. They have a thick layer of pine chips in there for the winter. Both the feed and water are elevated too.
