Gabbard Farms

I know somebody who ordered FBCM hatching eggs from them. Hatch wasn't too bad but when the pullets started to lay the color was very poor. 2 Gabbard eggs on the bottom of the picture.

They were very happy with their BLRW from them though.

I have had marans lay really light like that and then darken up to very nice dark eggs later on. I have not had any experience with Gabbard Farms and don't plan to, but just saying what my experience has been with marans eggs in general. Mostly if they are going to lay dark, they will start out that way, but not always.

I am not sure what color the original eggs were. But I think they were darker than those or she would have said something when she got them in the first place.

I believe her screen name is The Farmer's Wife, but she hasn't been on here in quite some time.

Wow, I'm sorry some of you folks have had bad experiences with Gabbard Farms-mine was totally different.
I got my eggs in a timely manner, had a good hatch rate and ended up with some really beautiful chicks.

I got some golden lakenvelder eggs from her a while back. Though my hatch was terrible (totally my fault) I did get the eggs quickly and the one that did hatch was a lakenvelder. Though when he finally 'grew up' I think he was a yellow (cross between silver and gold) rather than a golden.

Are they are banned?

I was talking to the lady about her Gabbards hatching eggs and she said when she got them she was so excited as they were really dark.
She thinks a inferior roo was used on the hens and it is his genes that are producing the pale eggs. I have no idea about BCM genetics.

So far the eggs from those hens haven't darkened up.

The Maran Club banned her....for their own reason, inferior Marans and false adversizing. Too many complaints from people expecting her Marans and the club decided to ban her. Same for her Welsummers, too many complaints as well.

No, she has not been on here for some time and I do not think so. However she still sells on Ebay.

I got a goreous Spitz roo from Gabbard, however, he is not here with me anymore. A friend of mine has him along with my beautiful hen so they can make some beautiful babies for me and my friend. The fertillty on the roo is questionable, not very good hit on the eggs.

I had to get rid of all my Spitz chicks I hatched from her stock because they had improper or no crests, crooked backs and less vigor on the chicks, that it was a struggle to keep them alive. I am hoping she can find an unrelated stock to cross with the stock she has now so the chicks will not be so weak. Would I buy more? No, I wouldn't.

I'd rather buy the Spitz from Carla in TX and Carla in OK, to me, they are very honest to me about their Spitzhaubens.

If that is the case she used the inferior roo on the hens, then that tells me that she didn't do her homework and got a bad roo that would jeopardize her Maran program. Not sure which one.

With that many birds, she is becoming like a hatchery and I do not know what her long term goals would be if she is to stay in the business for long.

Like I said, its a hit or miss with her stock and it is buyer's beware.
