Gaggle of Geese Lovers

View attachment 3029816This morning my two females were inside their house laying their eggs and the two ganders were on guard duty. They take their job very serious and my sneaky runner ducks keep them busy when they try to steal the leftover food from the goose house.:lau
I love that you have runners me to. but here the geese rule my runners would go near them. All 27 work as a flock but if the geese are overexercising there bugles the ducks have to be pushed out of there house. But every morning my penciled runners and Browns still have to say hi through the fence they were raised together in the same brooder. They were together till 2 months. There on the left of the pick the penciled on the right is MeTo note him tipping his head he was hatched from a saddled air cell egg so has no left eye. My Brown babies protected there flock from day one. So every morning they still say hi.

💕OH MY GOODNESS!!!💕
We've still got almost 2.5 feet of snow on the ground, though the geese have FINALLY started using their house...(haven't done so all winter, bitter as it's been this year!🤷‍♀️) and have started laying. I'm debating on wether or not to steal some of the eggs to toss in the incubator or just leave them be. I bought a 2 yo pair last year who hatched 3 goslings, then I added (4) 2 yo females who have never hatched any. I'm afraid if I mess with them, nobody will hatch anything.

Cool! Yeah, my runners and geese weren’t raised together, but the person I bought my geese from had runners. So, it turned out the geese were pretty well excepting of my runners and now they have pretty much adopted them. The geese are just a little bit hyped up because of breeding season atm. Btw, those are good looking penciled runners, I have a few that look like those, but most of mine are sort of mixed colours.

I’m always afraid if I leave the eggs for them to hatch themselves, that they may not try and the eggs will freeze, but if they show interest in setting it might be better for them to naturally hatch.

I just collect my eggs when they’re freshly laid around 7am and all of mine have gone in the incubators, but now the incubators are all full, so I think I’ll try giving my geese a clutch of eggs all at once and see if they go broody.

My 2 year old MaMa went broody yesterday, I take there eggs 2 times a day so she was on one egg. I have divider walls to keep the other geese out. So put thous up and grabbed all my marked eggs in the house. set them next to her and she tucked them under her. I did the same thing last year. Not sure it will work with your geese but when mine go broody its on that last egg they decide to get possessive of. So happy when they take over the brooding hatching. I hope another one goes broody next week.

Looks like a good setup you have there.
