How long was bag out in elements...and how did flies get into sealed bag?
Do you raise BSF?

The bag was outside for longer than I wanted / expected... maybe a month

I'm guessing the BSF's either sneaked-in somehow or maybe even laid eggs outside and they worked their way in?

We've raised BSF's before. They are naturally around here and we find them in our compost bin from time to time.

I will say the same thing I said before, free protein! (for the chickens, although there are humans who are testing this sort of protein too!)
Seriously, I would love a black soldier fly larvae farm! but they are not native here in the north, where it froze last night and we are expecting snow tonight. I would do the block freeze that someone else mentioned, that way you could parcel the yummy protein out bit by bit.
