Gahh School boards are soooo messed

School Boards can start and stop where they want to... too a point anyways. But considering the schools start one the same date and end (more-or-less) on the same date. we normaly have about 3-7 "storm/snow/stupid days" a year so not very many. We do not make up for snow days, guess the teachers are just use to it know

What boggles me... Winter Games... I'm assuming that this isn't some spur of the moment thing right? They knew that these Games would be coming, this year, at this time?? Should have had plenty of time to fiddle with the school schedule so that they still get the X number of days attended, as required by law here... 180... you could start one week earlier, then take a two weeks spring break, and still be at 180 like your neighboring city's kids... So... was this planned in advance, and the kids won't really be missing school, all balance in the end sort of thing? Or did they not know about this/last minute decision to tweak the schedule? And if last minute why not just move the break up a week, and then go back to school during the previously scheduled break? Are the kids going to have to stay into the summer to make up for those missed days? Are the teachers going to be paid extra for an extra week of work? It's expensive to alter schedules... hope they know what they're doing.

(one less thing i need to type/defend )

Oops, sorry, my apologies. I don't usually read signature lines, and they do not show up in the writing pane, so can't see them there, either.

I know our state mandates the number of instructional hours. I think there is also a minimum number of days of school. Schedules are set by each school district, although feeder districts usually at least consider each other's schedules in making their own. But we have multiple types of districts, and they are very definitely NOT tied to city or county boundaries. [drives me absolutely batty when someone complains about the taxes for one entity, and think it applies to others, when they are separate taxing authorities]

We have K-8 districts, High School Districts, Consolidated School Districts, Unified School Districts, Charter School Districts and even a few special districts (such as the "technology" school that is shared by multiple districts).
