So i finally got them somewhat interested in pecking around the food areas. I still can't get them to take to the water though and i've been dipping their beaks every time i get them to try and eat a lil on their own. I put another shiny quarter in the water hoping that their natural curiosity will lead them to drinking on their own, but so far no suck luck. Anyone have any other ideas? Also the second Chick that hatched is sleeping an awfully lot more than the first chick and they hatched not 20 mins from each other. Is this normal?
hi i use afish tank as a starter bruder they work good and a box will work if you dont have a tank i use starter for litter and they will start pecking in a few hrs. the water is a day or 2 befor they start drinking. here is a pic of my quail hatch the afternoon of the 18th

Awwww they are so adorable. We use a metal box with a hinging metal mesh lid. The bedding is pine but all the pieces are to big for them to eat thankfully. Here's a pic. They love having the room to run. The first chick that hatched runs around it like a race car driver, around and around in circles it's so cute. The lights are adjustable for day or night temperatures as it's in the garage. During the day it gets warm enough to turn the heat lamp off and open the garage door so they get some natural sunlight. That's when they really get active.
wow i forget how hot it gets some places im glad i moved to north west pa its cold here. i use a 100 watt in the tank with a mesh top and a cover. to get 80-90 thats in the house. out in the shed the bruders have heaters on most of the day to keep 75 i hate the heat i lived in alabama for 5 years th
at is way to hot down there. i use the feed as litter and even week chicks can eat. it works for me.
I might just do that I have one that sleeps a lot and doesn't like to get up and do much. This way maybe he'll get something in his belly. I make sure he stays hydrated by dipping his beak every hour or so. Thanks that's a really great idea. And yes in the the dead of summer the heat gets to about 120 F so it hits us hard too. Thankfully it's a dry heat.
I just watched my oldest chick take a drink of water YAY
. He's going to be the one to teach the next chicks that hatch how to eat and drink i think. Thankfully they got it i can sleep easy tonight and just wake up every 3 hrs to check on the incubator mabye tonight i'll get a lil bit of sleep lol.

So my son's Bearded dragon has passed away from old age. We're going to take your advise and set up the tank and make sure we disinfect it very well before we put them in. It's a lil smaller but we can get them out of the garage at least during the heat of the day. We have 110 degree weather coming tomorrow and it'll get 115 in the garage with the door closed. Even if it's open that's a little to warm for them anyway. I love getting ideas like this from someone who knows, at least more than i do lol, about the subject. Thanks again and again and again lol.
This makes my life so much simpler. I'll post pics as soon as i have the setup ready.
I'm sadly reporting the loss of two of my pipped eggs one from 48 hrs ago and one from 24 hrs. We did do an eggtopsy though and my son and my mother dissected one. It turns out their mostly heart. I'm all for learning if he wants to. Poor things. The only odd thing i found was that the yolk wasn't all the way absorbed on both. Almost like they died right after they pipped. Oh well still got 11 to see what comes out.
