Garden thread

My Meyer lemon is planted on the south side of my house. It is 12-15 years old. I kept it in a large pot the first 4 years and moved it in and out of my barn in the winter. I keep it pruned to about 5-6’ tall and wide. I get over 200 lemons each year. We don’t have snow often, but it doesn’t miss a beat when we do

Sounds like a meyer lemon! Just about everyone says they’re one of the best if not the best!

Great use of space! What all do you have planted?

For the hummers I have columbine and dicentra (bleeding hearts). There's also multiple types of corydalis, lanium (dead nettle, one of my favorite shade plants), hardy fuchsias, heuchera (coral bells), speedwell... I like to collect varieties of the same type of plant. Various grasses mixed in here and there for texture.

I also have bleeding hearts, and I love them!

Anyone know what this is? It wasn’t there 2 days ago and I found it on my tomato plant (on one single leaf) I pulled the leaf off and threw it into the chicken pen with the rest of my compost and scraps (the chickens never touch tomato foliage or twigs bc they’re poisonous but I’ve always safely composted it in the pen) and they didn’t touch the... eggs maybe? Maybe bugs? Not a clue. I’m baffled right now.

Hey everyone,
I was wondering if maybe we should start a new "What did you do in the garden today" thread? Since it's a new year - maybe we should also have a new thread for this year. Gardening time is coming!!!
What do you all think? I thought it would be easier for newer members/gardeners to get all kinds of info with a new thread!
It's okay if no one likes this idea. :)
- Clucky
Today I got one tomato and one cucumber.. HAHA not too much! Better than nothing I suppose!

I’ve never seen that before. :idunno

Ewww, I'm not sure though. Sorry.

Howdy y’all! I’ve noticed the thread is rather dormant, so hopefully this might help kick things in a little bit...
my plants have continued to grow well. My lemon tree has been sending off shoots and growing substantially. After I picked the first flowers off to skip the fruiting stage it grew tons of foliage. It’s growing even more foliage, and now it has buds as well!!! I’m so excited!!! I counted over 120 buds and I hope they all pollinate and turn to fruit. Does anyone have any idea if the flowers of a lemon, particularly meyer lemon, is a “complex” flower meaning it has both male and female organs, or are their separate male and female flowers? :wee
from top:
1-5 - Meyer lemon
6 - my overwintered tepin pepper
7 - a snow on the mountain. I actually got this from my gramma who got a plant from her grandma. She gave me a cutting and it grew into this. So it’s sort of a... what’s the word... heirloom! Ahh yes. So it’s sort of an heirloom as it’s from my great great grandmother. That’s... I’m the fifth generation I believe? Sounds about right. I hope to give a cutting to my kids or grandkids as well 😁
8-9 - lantana or confetti flower, my great aunt gave me 2 cuttings and they produced beautifully!
10-11 - correct me if I’m wrong but these are gardenias...? Grown from cuttings from my gramma. They blossomed that very evening into gorgeous white flowers that smelled so amazing!
The rest was just for fun, I won’t go further unless anyone asks. I have chickens, some sage, oregano, ghost peppers, a chocolate habanero, tons of other hot pepper plants I didn’t take pictures of, Ive got citrus cuttings, mints, and I took a photo of a mushroom. Everyone have a fun day! It’s sunny and warm for me! :wee:celebrate
