Gardening for Old Folks (Adaptative)

It's been way too hot here for me to do much in the garden. Weeds are currently winning.

I am finally getting some tomatoes, cucumbers, and green beans.

Picking blueberries in my pots is wonderful. No bending, stooping, sitting squatting. Just pick and eat when watering. :)

I haven't gotten any ripe tomatoes yet but we planted late - last week of May. I got 2 cucumbers...still only have lots of flowers there. And Zucchinis are just starting to get large enough to harvest. We love to grill those.

About how much (quart or lb.) blueberries do you get from that number of plants?

My blueberry shrubs are still small, so not much this year, plus they weren't doing well in the ground so not all are producing this year. Back when we had some bigger shrubs it was quite a lot of blueberries, but miserable picking for me. I don't recall how much though, more than we could eat in a day.

I planted near the end of May too in my kozy Kotes. It helps to jump start my tomatoes season. Otherwise I wouldn't see any tomatoes until almost August here. I also try to pick shorter day varieties.

I have been ignoring my poor garden, very disheartened by having stuff chewed up multiple times. The japanese beatles are eating the apple tree leaves even. Plus the animals are taking up a lot of my time with coop building.

oh, you're so lucky, i go out and talk to the tomato's, beans and cucumbers, my husband thinks i've lost what little bit of mind i had lol but so far, only gotten about three tomato's, no beans or cucumbers, but have some almost ready to pick, cucumbers not beans but i did get a late start, IF i get all the tomato's that are on the plants, going to be canning for days as for the blueberries, i have to fight the birds even tho we covered them with netting, they figured out how to go under the netting, smart birds and i really don't want to kill them, just old starling but hey, they have to eat too i guess, just wish it wasn't my berries
i pull a few weeds in the early morning, husband will come out after he eats his breakfast and he hoes where i haven't reached yet so guess my garden looks half way decent

I picked enough cherries from my smallest Evans Bali Cherry tree this morning to make a cherry pie. It just came out of the oven and I now must wait impatiently for it to cool. It does smell really good.
now that sounds so good, haven't had a cherry pie since my mil passed:drool
