Gardening for Old Folks (Adaptative)

I would suppose your lettuce will be ready before April or May. But what about your tomatoes?
i don't know but sure hope so, would be nice to have a real tomato
i want to transplant the lettuce shortly, its a kind of head lettuce so it has plenty of space to spread out and grow

Wow! How do you transplant "shortly" in PA? In my area of Northwest NJ (right next to the Delaware River) we are about to turn into an ice skating rink with this storm. There will be no digging till March or April.

When is everyone planting their seeds indoors?
Middle of March for tomatoes and middle of May for pumpkins, cantaloupe, watermelon and cucumbers, except for the two Gold Nugget tomatoes I planted in November (now in bloom) and the two King Arthur peppers I planted last month.

i usually start my cucumbers in april or may but i start them in the greenhouse 4 to a cup, then when second leaves, transplant them in another 3 inch pot each one separate til i'm sure they're taking hold then plant in the garden

Most stuff that I grow is 8 weeks, so generally I don't start stuff until March into April. Tomato plants will get too big and leggy here if started too soon. Even if I'm starting perennials those I don't start until February or later. Our frost date is May 15 here with frost possible into June.
