I get most of my carrot seeds from Johnny's Selected Seeds because they have a good selection of carrots that are not orange.
i'm a traditonalist with carrots, guess with my tomatoes also, at least what i like, i plant pineapples and peaches to eat and this year i'm going to try a couple of new paste types for canning, yep, traditionalist, i hate change:)

My mother did not want anything to do with carrots that aren't orange. She said she did not want "designer carrots". Turns out that the orange carrots are the designer carrots and were the last color developed. All the other colors predated the orange carrot.

If you are trying new paste tomatoes, you may want to try Burpee's Super Sauce. I have personally harvested 1 1/2 lb. Super Sauce tomatoes. It is really nice when you can fill a quart canning jar with only two tomatoes.

Another roma type that I like is Gladiator. They are advertised to grow to 8 oz. but I have had some that were easily 3/4 lb.

i've been looking at some of the burpee tomatoes but not sure, i have alot of tomato seeds that i've harvested from tomatoes i've grown so will wait and see how much room i have, i have a good amount of space, think it 25'x100' at least but also depends on if my back will allow me
those super sauce sound interesting, just might make room for some.

bob, may i ask you a question about onions?
i bought some candy onions from johnnys and of course they shipped them on 2/24, what i want to know is, do i go ahead and plant them in cups or will they be ok til we go back up north in april?
It is a long time until April, I would plant them now. You do not have to plant them as individuals. You can plant them in bunches and separate them later when you are planting them in the garden.

I order my onions through Dixondale Farms. One of the features I like is that I get to specify when they get shipped.

We grow onions in the winter months here in Florida. I don't know how much of a freeze they can tolerate but we can get a frost now and then and the onions, peas, broccoli, cauliflower and most greens including lettuse aren't affected.

When I was growing up, we planted "winter onions" in the fall and started harvesting them in the spring. This was in SW PA.

thank you. that will make it much easier, in bunches, didn't even think of that but then this is the first time i've ordered onion plants never to old to learn, just learned i can start fruit from the seeds, the apple tree may not grow true but its an apple, the citrus should grow true, my orange trees came from a man who threw some seeds out by his house and they grew til now he has oranges out the ears lol, we will see if i'm lucky enough to live that long
