Gardening for Old Folks (Adaptative)

I am making ham & bean soup and ran out of carrots so I pulled a couple from the garden.

Living on a sand dune grows great looking carrots. Mine are twisted or stumps

maybe should have left them for seed .:lau
We are wet here. lots of rain every few days. over 2 inches last night.
With the smoke from Minn, the sun doesn't get a chance to dry it out.
The smoke was so bad we could see it hanging in the trees. We are 100 miles East of where that fire is. They could use the rain we are getting.

That smoke has to be rough.
I got an inch of rain a couple days ago. I have the soaker hose running on the pumpkins, squash and watermelons.

Wish I could get straw for a top dressing on the leaves I use for mulch. But we do not have straw. Can get hay all day long, for $8/bale. But the hay is almost always a bermuda strain & can take root in the garden. I have enough trouble with the native bermuda in my garden. Don't wanna introduce more.

Picked some of the pumpkins this morning.
The biggest 2 in this pic are the Early Giants. The one on the left is 23 lbs. and the one on the right is 30 lbs.

The Big Moose in this one is 93 lbs.

How many plants are these from?
I have 3 Cinderella plants, 3 pumpkins are about ripe and half a dozen might get ripe...a few more I don't think will amount to much
