Rabbit is tasty 😋

I was checking out my Lilac bush the other day and noticed that most of the lower branches have all the bark chewed off them. I am thinking it is from a rabbit.

The funny thing is that this lilac is inside the fenced yard for the dog. I had seen a rabbit in the yard a few times, but to do that much damage he was there alot! Guess a 120 lb german shepherd is not as intimidating as a couple barn cats. The cats don't go in the dog yard - so bunny must feel safe there.

BTW, the dog does not chase the cats from what I can tell - he doesn't bother the cats beyond smelling their butts. He does occasionally step on them if they are near me when we are playing fetch.

When I lived in Wyoming, it was a new development and we were all trying to get gardens going. One friend was gifted some lumber "scraps" and decided to build raised beds for his wife who had a bad back. The scraps were all around 5' long and he built the beds about 3' tall. They ended up with one bed that she didn't plant anything in. It was outside the fenced yard and too far away for the hose to reach for watering. Well, he couldn't stand to see it there with nothing growing so he bought some packets of carrot seeds and just spread the seed out and lightly raked it in. Every seed must have sprouted because that bed grew and was solid carrot tops from edge to edge and about 18" tall. He was getting excited about having a carrot crop until one morning when they got up it was completely stripped down to dry earth by the antelope. Overnight, every speck of green growth was gone, lol.
Those potlickers would also eat every flower bud off my daylillies right before they opened.

Sounds like the deer around here

today my brother came out and trimmed my apple trees. One is completely dead,. He cup all of the lower branches off of it. Left the main trunk and high branches for later.
Took a few branches from the other tree for rooting. that tree might not come back next year. these trees are over 50 years old.
they grew from seeds from a discarded apple . No clue what kind of apple they were. two completely different varieties.
I never sprayed those trees. Never had a wormy apple.
