Gardening for Old Folks (Adaptative)

I have heard of raised beds.
Never heard the terms you are using.
Is it something that one could build or are they purchased ?
I would highly recommend hugelkulture if you have the time to get them started, I have one I started several years ago, I'm not old but my back is busted and it helps tons not havingto bend all the way down, plus I was able to teach my chickens to stay off of it so I don't have to worry about them destroying my plants anymore. I have 5 more large hugelkulture beds starting now.

For corn you would need a pretty large one, since as I'm sure you know corn needs planted a minimum of 3 rows wide yo preform best

We are not planting gardens anymore. Corn is about all we do.
we used to plant a half pound of corn.
Now Jung sells it by the count. So we got a 1000 seed packet.'
Serendipity. we freeze 50 one pint packages each year. cream style..
I am going to move to an old garden site this year. haven't planted there for over ten years. there should be about five or six rows . I plant all of the seeds. I weed only enough that we will use.
if anybody wants corn, they have to weed their share..

We put in a this. Green house in the winter but add plastic to it. The bed is taller then most, I didn’t want to bend over to take care of it. It’s 8’ by 12’ I think 🤔 with the beds on the sides being 2’ and half wide. Works great. Give us plenty of veggies. We even have enough to share. It’s very easy to take care of.

Egger4me, I really like your raised beds. You did it right. If you are going to raise them, make them high enough. Now you need a chair of the proper height .
will you be able to use it all winter ?
what part of the country are you in ?
Indiana so cold and wet winters. I use a oil radiator heater in winter. It stays around 50 on cold days.

Without the heater I can keep thing going until December but after that it gets really cold and cloudy. So we add heat this year. We had lettuce and spinach all winter. That’s really all I tried this year. Next I will try other stuff.

I am in central wisc. december would be three extra months for us.

yesterday we went to our twelfth annual old farts picnic. it was fun.
we ate way more than we needed to. but ya gotta sample some of each, right?
just before dark our doe showed up under the apple tree. glad to see that she made it through the hunting season.
I might be sorry to have all these deer hanging out in my yard, they won't be a problem as long as they don't nibble on my grapes and new trees.
