Gardening for Old Folks (Adaptative)

I have the carb on. the motor runs as long as I squirt gas in. it starts only if I use starting fluid, but shuts down as soon as the fluid is used up.
I suspect the float valve is stuck shut.
is that possible with a brand new carb??
the fuel solenoid is working OK.
tomorrow I am taking the carb apart.

Everything is possible. the needle may be stuck to the seat. (maybe the carb was located somewhere hot. and caused the rubbed on needle to get gummy. )
Or the float grabs are not catching the needle top. :old :idunno
I would first try to shoot some compressed air thru the fuel line into the carb. That may free it up,,,,, and save you a disassembly.

How well did that system work with the hole in the side of the bucket and perforated pipe to create an air gap? Did it prevent root rot?
I have a couple of planters without holes in the bottom that I am thinking of doing something similar. I have been having problems with the potted plants drying out too fast in the greenhouse if there are holes in the bottom.

I disassembled, the needle was not connected to the float. but it still does not work. I am going to send this one back.

I use 5 gal buckets. I do not put holes in the bottom. I put a few drain holes in the side of the bucket about 3 inches from the bottom. that leaves a reservoir in the bottom of the bucket. so there is always moist dirt in the bucket. hoping that some of the water will wick up some
I am thinking that maybe a cotton wick , like a piece of T shirt , from the bottom of the bucket to the top would wick the water up better. I have not tried that , though.
maybe a deeper reservoir would be better ?

Picked cherries yesterday.

Is that a MASSIVE bowl or are those really small cherries?
The bowl is 10 1/4" in diameter at the top and 6" deep. They are normal size for tart cherries which is slightly smaller than your typical Bing Cherries.

I would have said the bowl was two feet in diameter.
I hit upon a gold mine today.
it turns out that there is a Briggs part store just about five miles from us. On a side road between us and town. Very nice people. turns out the guy lives just about a mile from us.
that will surely cut down on my web searches for Briggs parts.
