You probably know the coffee beans that pass thru the digestive tracks of monkeys. When DS went on visit to Guatemala, I told him not to bring me any of that particular coffee. Expensive BTW.I have paw paw seeds that germinate best after they pass through the digestive tract of an animal!
I asked about the sour gherkins too with no answer. So I guess we both will be trying them this year. I have done the half barrel. I love love your cinder block garden, that's adorable. I may be stealing that one day.OOOOHHH ya'll are making me itch to get my hands in the dirt.
I got some cut off plastic barrels from a lady in the area. They bought an old blackberry farm and are giving away thousands of the barrels. I could only haul 6. I plan to paint them and put pool noodles around the tops to sort of level them up. Gonna start my planting about the end of March.
Has anyone tried those little sour gherkins? Supposed to look like miniature watermelons and taste like a mix between lemons and cucumbers? I can't decide whether to put them in a container or on the ground. I also am gonna make a cinder block herb garden to match my succulent garden. Lots of projects- better get started. I also saw the cutest plant markers- someone bought a bunch of wooden spoons really cheap and painted them white and wrote the name of the plant on it with a marker.
Thanks Old hen likes dogs (me too). Feel free to use anything I post. Did you paint your barrels? I am thinking of painting them to sort of match the colors of the house and put a couple in the front and a couple in the back and a couple along the sides(lol). A friend suggested I put some chicken decals or paint a chicken stencil on them. I am painting them a medium grey and the pool noodles black. I may put a row of black on the barrel and stencil some chickens on that. good luck with the gherkins- will keep you posted on mine.I asked about the sour gherkins too with no answer. I didn't paint mine. Mine were white. After about a decade they became brittle, and we removed them when we build our raised boxes in 2016. We grew potatoes in them and it worked really good. Thanks Old hen likes dogs (me too). Feel free to use anything I post. Did you paint your barrels? I have some cinder block gardens in the back- can't kneel on the ground anymore. My chickens love them- I have to cover them with netting until the plants can withstand the chicken onslaught.I didn't paint mine. Mine were white.
