Zone 5 update... :gig
I feel like a weather reporter on TV. :gig:oops:
We finally got some decent spring weather and I'm LUVIN it.:thumbsup
here is a pix of some daffodils. These are different than those I posted a few days ago. They are lighter in color, . They have been growing in that bed for over 20 years. I don't do anything to them at all. they grow in-between a growth of Rose Of Sharon bushes/trees.

Here is what I had to do with my plum tree.. :hit The Black Knot Fungus gangrene was beyond limit for this one. There is a new sapling that will be growing in its place. :)

The trunk is coming down also, just did not have the right saw at the time. This is caveman's solution to controlling the fungus.

Just wondering how are all of you north of 42 degree north latitude. Did most of the snow melt?

I think your daffodils are pretty. Mine haven't bloomed in the 6 years I have lived here. They are about to get removed. I love, love Rose of Sharon. Mine isn't very big, but it is mighty. Hopefully will get bigger as time goes on. Sorry about your plum tree. I know that is a hard thing to do, but my Crepe Myrtles are gonna get the same if they don't bloom really well this year. Been fighting scale and fungus for two years now on the trees and the nandina. Lichen on the Pecan tree- I lost two large pecan trees last year. Am determined not to loose these. I fertilize, pray and cry over those suckers. LOL

Our snow is almost gone. Hoping to start poking around in the gardens by the end of the week. Zone 4 here.

Ah yes, the Black Knot bonfire looks familiar. My plums suffered a similar fate. I gave up on them and planted apples instead, they seem to grow better here, and while they have their share of diseases they seem to respond well to treatment. Sorry it came to that, it is tough to give up on something you have nurtured for so long. Good luck on its replacement!

Still have just a bit of snow here in zone 4B. First daffodil blossom yesterday. The black flies are already swarming. Turkeys are gobbling up a storm in the woods. Frogs did their first serenade of the year yesterday.
You have frogs. :ya That means your frost is out of the ground. I must start listening for mine.

Sparked my interest in Purslane. A weed, and I never knew as eatable.
Further searching led me to this following page.

I know dandelions are eatable. I had them in salads before. Not sure of their individual taste, since I like my salads well dressed with dressing.:)
The other weeds in above article , I did not eat. Not aware they were all that popular as people food. :idunno Most seem to taste like SPINACH style. That seems to compare to meats that seem to taste like CHICKEN,,,, :)
This leads me to believe, that I need not do any further gardening effort. All those weeds are growing there without me trying to nurture them, :gig
How many of you here eat any of these???
There is also pokeweed growing in garden. It is a pretty plant, and supposed to be eatable at certain stage. Poisonous at later growth stage. I have no desire to experiment on myself when the cutoff time is.:th
I also grow rhubarb. I am plenty aware that the leaves are a no no. Not sure of their toxic level.:idunno The stalks are,,,,, :drool When sold at the store, never with leaves, like other veggies as beets, etc.
This is a gardening forum, so I'm including a link , rather than a media insert. It is related to POKEWEED.

People eat stinging nettles too. I personally am not going there unless I am forced to. As far as the other stuff, I have 5 dogs and about 100 head of poultry using my yard, I'm not eating anything from my lawn. :sick
