The heat wave caused some bursts of bloom. This is my sour cherry tree blooming. The fruit is OK in taste for me. :idunno I just keep tree for the beautiful spring flowers. I planted some Bing Cherry seeds last summer into ground. Waiting to see if they will sprout. This sour cherry started from seed. I originally had a large tree about 10 feet away that bit the dust. :hitage.

Tree is growing crowded among Rose Of Sharon trees. What is pictured is a branch reaching into open space.

Its the sour cherries that you need to make cherry pies or cherry jelly. There is nothing like a home made cherry pie made from fresh picked cherries.

My plums, Nanking Cherries, currants, gooseberries, and serviceberries are blooming. My Evans Bali Cherries are getting ready to bloom.

When I walk by the Crandall Clove currants there is a wonderful aroma of cloves.

I agree, on the sour cherries to make pies. Yes, these are the ones. Problem here is there is not enough at harvest time for even one pie,,, :rant,,,, My feathered friends are usually quicker to the fruit than:old well me,,, :gig I like the taste of the sweet Bing Cherries. :drool
I do have one tiny bush of red currants. Had more before, but they didn't thrive for some reason. Now I'm babying this last one. My gooseberries got wiped out a few years ago. :hit
There is hope for some plums. My remaining trees that I neutered the Black Knot Fungus from look OK. Eventually they will become soo scrawny, that I will have to replant with new saplings.

The azomite is not just a "wonder drug" for the garden. I introduced my Dr. to azomite and he just raves about what it has done for his trees. I give some to my fruit trees in the spring. The Evans Bali cherry trees are a naturally dwarf tree and mine were right about 4' tall last year. I covered the one with the most cherries with bird netting and easily got enough cherries to make a pie last year. This year it looks like all 3 of my Evans Bali cherry trees are going to be loaded and they are maybe 4 1/2' tall this year. I am going to have to protect them from the thieving robins that think anything red belongs to them.

BTW, my cherry pie last year was awesome!

I do like sweet cherries but they will not grow here. They are not cold hardy enough.

Yep, I've not run into a timber rattler on our place, but we're in the wheelhouse. Every now and then there is a road kill in the region. I found a beautiful big female sunning on a rock a couple counties south while mushroom hunting 5 years ago. They are a very handsome snake!

Sour cherries are my favorite for pies and cherry delight as well. They also dry well for snacking. We have 2 that are loaded with blooms this year. It looks like a banner year for the apples too.

Of course if I come across one anywhere I may be hiking, I just say DON'T GO AWAY MAD,,,,, JUST GO AWAY,, :gig

I've got to figure out a strategy to protect my pear and peach trees. Squirrels, deer and birds are convinced they are there for them. Last year I got one pear from two trees and keeping with that theme, didn't get any peaches from the one tree. As for the crab apple tree we're gonna wrestle for the fruit as I want to make more jam.

Too bad you are so far away, I have lots of fencing that I used to make pens around my trees to protect them from the deer. Since I put up a 6' high 2"x4" welded wire perimeter fence, I have been able to remove all the individual tree protection pens. It will protect the trees from the deer but the bird (bird Netting) and squirrels (none here) are another issue.

One thing that you might try to see what kind of results you get is to tie sheets of Bounce Fabric Softener (regular) to the trees. Around here that did keep the deer from eating any flower clumps that I tied them to. I doubt that it would do anything for the birds but it may help against the squirrels. It did stink the place up (IMO).

Interesting idea about the fabric softener! (And I agree with you, some of those things really smell :sick)
