I don't have a cat- the dogs would go berserk - as would the chickens. I do have neighborhood cats scaling the 6 foot privacy fence to get to the dog food and to use the raised vegetable garden as a toilet. Haven't figured out how to keep them out. Feeding the neighborhood is getting expensive. I may start putting out a live trap and take them to the humane society - but - if they are reclaimed, it will be same thing all over.
Don't mean to sound heartless- but I just can't afford all of them. I have had to start putting up the dog food at night. Did catch a possum in the live trap- neighbors called the cops when the dogs treed it on the patio and barked too loud for them to sleep. They also bark at night when cats come in the yard- and I really don't want the cops coming back on barking dog complaint.

Sounds like more of a neighbor problem, than a cat problem. :hmm

put up a strand of electric wire around top, we had to put electric wire around our garden to keep the cats out, it worked for us

Electric on a perimeter fence is illegal in some places.

Any reason you have dog food out at night? Most folks feed their dogs once or twice a day. Food out 24x7 is a sure lure for everything from cats to coons.

I agree - I had been just putting the daily food out in the mornings and they usually ate it 24/7- or something did- the dogs are not thin, so they are eating. I just try to touch each chore once and done- now I get to touch it twice. I will find out about electric fencing.

You should smell what comes out of this cat. :sick I see why someone dumped her. Good thing she's adorable. Oh and did I mention the snots. She came with a terrible respiratory infection she can't quite get rid of despite multiple antibiotic shots. I am getting attached to the dumb cat. :) So she's a keeper, just not in the house. :sick
Raw meat might help. When we got our American Bobtail kitten (9 months old), he was diagnosed at the vet with coccidiosis, respiratory infection, and an ear infection. I was only able to give him the ear drops, as it was extremely difficult/impossible to get the medicine for the respiratory infection and coccidiosis down the hatch. I'm not a fan of antibiotics anyway, and will try other methods first.

As it turns out, after searching with Dr. Google, the medicine given for the coccidiosis often makes it worse. Decided to try treating the respiratory infection naturally by nutrition. Gave human probiotics, raw beef heart (which is the normal diet anyway), and just being in a clean environment would possibly clear the coccidiosis. This cat came from a filthy environment, and probably didn't have even a clean litter box, or enough to eat.

Next visit at vet., no respiratory infection, no coccidiosis, and ear infection gone.

She's actually improving slowly. She is finally eating some dry. She still doesn't cover though, the Stinky cat. She did come with multiple health problems so it's always possible that's the reason why too. She's definitely more healthy with only an occasional sneeze. I will probably ask for another antibiotic shot for her on Friday when they spay her.

I personally am a vegetarian, so I could not stomach cutting up raw beef heart, I just cannot. :sick
