Gardening for Old Folks (Adaptative)

:wee today we got the grape arbor completely done. It is two wires tall and 50 feet long. there are three grapes growing there already that I planted last year. I have three in pots that will be planted soon.
My nephew did 90%of the labor. I did all of the supervising...

I went back out after lunch and pruned the three grape vines. tied them to stakes to train them to be the main trunk.
today I got the power steering repaired.
I spliced in a piece of steel brake line. Had to use some WD40 to get the flanges into the hoses, .
Then I punched out 4 pins and removed the bucket from the loader arms. Ehat will make it easier to get at all the stuff we have to remove from the front.

we did our first canning of the season. 7 quarts of tomatoes. we run them through the food processor to liquify them , and then cook them and pour them into jars and give them a boiling water bath. we do not peel them, just cut out the stem.
we plan on doing about 100 quarts.

I just used the last of 2019 onions. :wee
Copra are supposed to last 8-10 months. Some started growing in the box at 8 months, but some lasted 13 and might of lasted longer if I didn't need them.

onions and potatoes should not be stored close to each other.. I don't know how this is accomplished in a fruit cellar..

I put the onions and garlic in a back nw unused bed room in open boxes.
The potatoes go in the basement in a dark corner. If I have a lot of taters I put them in buckets of sand.

I have a better longevity when they are separate. Always wondered about that in a cellar too

A good root cellar has enough ventilation to prevent the build-up of the ethylene gas, plus you separate them as far a possible. Onions low to the floor, apples higher.

I need to figure out a venting system for our root cellar. I put a bunch of squash in there a couple of years ago and they all rotted. Too much moisture I guess?

last fall we put a huge buttercup squash out in our unheated sun porch. It dried up like a gourd . tough as leather.
today I got the hydraulic shaft off of the tractor hyd. pump. I managed to get it off without dismantling the whole loader. however, I did have to remove the radiator.. No big deal, that.
now I don't know how to measure the shaft for a new splined coupler.
I don't understand the term "bore" in the description...
