Gardening for Old Folks (Adaptative)

We have purslane too. My daughter picks some when she visits, and uses it in salads. She also gathers wild carrot and wild onions. I'm sure she will want some pigweed.
I wonder is it is what we call Sourweed? We used to chew that as kids. If it wasn't too mature, it had a sweet taste, not a sour one.

I doubt it. The Lamb's Quarter has a slight lemon taste to it. We had a clover like plant that had a delightful sour taste. We never ate pigweed.

we ate that sweet sour weed too.
it is not pig weed. pig weed is as welcome as Canadian thistle..
livestock won't eat it.
we had one heckuva storm today.
we were driving home in it. it was almost like night at 4 in the afternoon. I never drove through a storm like that before. tornado warnings all around us. no damage at home when we got there.

What kind of nettle is this?
We have a lot of Milk Thistle and occasionally see Bull nettle (stinging nettle) out by the highway, but 1st time seeing a yellow nettle around here.

sorry I can't help you. about all I can identify is dandelions and burdock.
my nephew was mowing the grass for me. He kept avoiding the burdock because he thought it was rhubarb. lolol

According to the information available, Redroot Pigweed is edible. I suffered no effects of any kind but I only ate one leaf. Had it been tasty I would have tried more. It was very bland.

Purslane is also listed as edible but when tasting it, I have not found any reason to try more. Lamb's Quarter on the other hand has a delightful lemony taste.

It was 35°F this morning. I saw no evidence of frost but will look for damage once it heats up.

Interesting,, I think I will stick to iceberg lettuce .lolol
my wife keeps telling me that nettle and dandelions are good to eat. but I haven't seen her try either one, yet.
