I sure hope I remember how to put it all together again.

I've gotten in the habit of taking pictures as I dismantle something so I have a prayer of getting it put back right.

When you put it together,,,, and don't have tooooooo many extra parts left over,, you should be in pretty good shape.

So, what now ? I have all the head bolts off. the head is stuck on tight.
Everything I read says to not use a screwdriver. I can understand that. don't want to warp the head. I think somebody put sealant on the gasket. I bought it new, I can't imagine the factory doing that ???
I have an old thin butcher knife.
I will run it around and wreck the gasket, I guess.
ETA I have the head off. I found a hidden bolt behind the exhaust manifold. I had to remove the manifold to get at it.
I was right. The intake valve was sticking. The valve guide bushing came loose. I will just reseat it and hope for the best..

If you are going to press the valve guide back in,,, (and it is somewhat not very tight) I would spread a thin layer of JB weld onto the surfaces where they press fit . Press them in and wipe off all excess JB. JB takes a long time to cure. Like 24 hours. It also has a slightly longer working time compared to 5 minute epoxy.
In my opinion,, the JB wont hurt, a try.

thanks rich, I already have it done. tomorrow I will go get some lapping compound and a lapping tool.
hard to accomplish anything with people coming to visit throughout the day.
visitors come first, the work will be there tomorrow.

I got the head back on , still have to torque the eight bolts. then i can start assembly. I hope I remember where everything goes.

I made good progress this morning putting the lawn mower back together. then the sun came out and heated me out. I have to run to town for an intake manifold gasket.
Have to change the oil. Got gas in the crankcase from trying to start it. It needed a change anyhow.
the corn around us is growing about a foot a day. the grapes love this humid weather too.
unfortunately, so does the lawn.

progress is slow lately. I am not about to go out in 90F sunny days.
Yesterday I waited until seven PM and went out to see what I could get done.
the wind was blowing quite hard, but I could handle that. Then it started to thunder and then the rain started.
the storm slid from north to south just east of us. the brunt of it hit wausau head on. It knocked a large branch off of a tree in my daughter's front yard.
we were on the edge of it, so all we got was rain.

I have been doing some gardening daily. Mostly its just maintenance, watering, fertilizing, and adjustments to my container grown things,,,,, But I had these broken 33 gal plastic barrels. The breaks were on the bottom, and some on the sides. The top 8 inches is perfectly strong, and intact. I cut those rings out with some strong shears, and repurposed to make raised beds. Filled with good screened topsoil, and planted my bag of red onions. I know it is somewhat late,,, in season,,,, but whatever I get,, will be fine. Had they bag of onion sets looking at me way tooooo long.
I also spread the screened topsoil all around those raised beds,, and planted grass seed. Spot was somewhat weed overgrown before I started.
I covered with chicken wire, to keep squirrels out. They immediately seek out fresh soil planting,,, to add their own stash of seeds. (the BOSS that I feed them)
