Gardening for Old Folks (Adaptative)

I don't get near the size of bell peppers from potted plants that I get from bell peppers planted in the ground.

The type of potting soil used is important. I have found that the ones that have the "water retaining" ingredient cause the plants to do poorly.

I add a tablespoon of azomite to each gallon of potting soil.
What does the azomite do?

Those were really interesting articles, thank you. Have you been using azomite for a long time? Notice any differences in plant growth yourself?
I proved to myself that it works as stated the first time I used it. I had seedlings that I had not yet transplanted because they were far behind the ones I had already transplanted. I added azomite to their potting soil and they caught up with the others in one week. By the end of the second week they were ahead of the others.

I live on a sand dune. The sand easily leaches all trace miinerals out as the water easily drains through it. No matter what variety of tomatoes I planted, they all tasted the same. After using azomite each tomato variety had its own flavor.

My beets are so sweet that I have to reduce the amount of sugar in the pickling brine.

I love hearing this. I bought azomite a year or so back just to add more minerals back into my soil. Healthy soil= healthy food. It didn't come with any instructions on the bag so I just added a teaspoon or so into my homemade fertilizer. Every time I fertilize plants get a little. With your info and links you provided I can see I seriously under used it. Will increase the amount I add to my fertilizer, or do you think it best to just dig it in directly to the soil?

Where did you buy it?
My brother picks it up in Utah for me when he comes to visit.

Walmart started selling it this year in small packages.

You can get it on Amazon for around $40 dollars for a 44 lb. sack. They already add shipping costs into the price so they can say free shipping. It's still much cheaper that way than the per lb. price at Walmart.

If you have good or clay soil you may need to add it infrequently. I live on a sand dune so I add it frequently.

I sprinkle it directly on the soil in the garden.

For potted plants I mix it into the potting soil at the rate of one tablespoon per gallon of potting soil.

I water my potted plants from the bottom to minimize leaching the goodies out of the soil.

Thanks
I have clay but it hasn't been doing as good as it was. Tomatoes don't taste right. Thought it was me but a neighbor said they didn't taste as good as the ones I had given her before.
